“Take your clothes off,” she said, pointing a wavering finger at me.

“No way. We’re not doing anything right now while you’re this drunk,” I said. “You lay right there and I’m going to get you some water and aspirin and a bucket because I think you’re going to need it.”

Lark rolled on her back and looked at the ceiling and started singing a nonsense song. I figured that was as good as it was going to get.

Lark didn’t fight me as I made her drink a glass of water and a few pills.

“Let’s get you into something comfortable, okay?” I said, pulling her until she was sitting up with her legs over the side of the bed.

“Can you get your shirt over your head?” I asked, trying not to stare at her. Ogling my drunk roommate wasn’t something I needed to do.

“I got this,” she told me.

“Okay, show me,” I said.

Lark pulled her shirt up and then got it stuck on her head.

“I don’t got this,” she said in a sad voice. “Help.”

I stifled a laugh and helped her get the shirt off. I left her bra on and told her to put her arms up so I could get her night shirt on.

Then it was time for her jeans. Thankfully, they were baggy, so they slid right down her legs, and I pulled her sleep shorts on and got her back in bed.

“You’re sooooo pretty,” Lark slurred at me, her eyes half closed.

“Thank you. You’re very pretty too,” I said, running my hand through her hair once.

“We should fuck,” Lark said.

“Not right now.”

“Yesss,” she said, frowning. “I want to fuck.”

“Tomorrow,” I said, knowing she wouldn’t have any memory of this conversation. “Close your eyes and sleep now.”

“No,” she said even as she closed her eyes.

“Your bucket is right next to the bed,” I told her as she mumbled something else.

Before I left the room, I leaned over and kissed her on the forehead.

Chapter Ten

The next thingI heard was someone hurling their guts out in the bathroom. I guess Lark was awake.

I got out of bed and waited until the gagging stopped before I knocked on the door.

“Are you okay?”

“Fuck off,” she said.

“Just checking,” I said, and headed to the kitchen to make her some hangover food.

Lark took a long time in the bathroom and by the time she came out, I was putting bacon in a pan.

“Well hello there,” I said, trying not to be too smug.

“Too loud,” she said, one hand holding the side of her head.
