That sounded heavenly.
It wasn’t long before we were back to his car, going back towards the Hills.
‘Is that place you were talking about my bed?’ I suspected him of a devious masterplan but never of what followed on that night.
‘No, we’re actually here.’ He pulled into a drive-in cinema, where at least two dozen cars were already lined up to watch the movie that was about to start. ‘Have you ever been before to one of these?’
‘No, we didn’t have a car.’ I didn’t go on since starting to talk about my family was bringing up old memories, and the night wasn’t about that. It was about making new ones. ‘I didn’t know they were open in winter.’
‘Just as long as it doesn’t rain or snow too much. I checked the weather, and we should be good.’
‘If I didn’t know better, I would say you’re trying to impress me.’ I was amused by how much trouble he had put into this date.
‘I’ve never struggled to impress a girl, and I won’t start with you.’ I guess my observation made him go into offensive mode.
‘Okay.’
‘Okay, what?’
‘Okay, don’t impress me,’ I turned to look at Cole, letting him know that he’s not doing a really good job at covering up his intention.
‘Never mind. I already know you’re impressed by me.’
‘And how’s that?’
‘You’ve seen me naked.’ He casually shrugged like his perfectly sculpted body covered in mesmerizing tattoos and the luring shape of his manhood could ever fail to impress me... Okay, maybe I was just alittleimpressed, but he still had a long road ahead of him to make me fall head over heels.
And it seemed that the road to my heart was paved with Belgian truffles. ‘I got these on the way.’ He took a box of Deluxe chocolates from the backseat and placed it on my lap. Another part of theI’m not trying to impress youproject.
The movie was pretty cute. We watched a comedy, which was a nice change compared with the apocalyptic movie that was running at the party or with the sports channel that’s always on when Cole came to visit me.
The comedy seemed to bring him into a whole different mood, and his arms seemed to glide around my waist, bringing my head to rest on his shoulder.
As weird as this might sound, he came across as normal, at least in those moments. And even weirder, we probably were as close as it gets to a regular couple.
Only the trick was, we would always be miles away from that.
Not necessarily in a bad way, but certainly in a different one.
‘Are you tired?’ His question came as soon as the movie ended, just like he had been waiting for a while to ask it.
‘Not really. Why? What do you have in mind?’ He got me curious about what was going through that handsome head of his.
‘You’ll see.’ He drove off, heading towards the top of the Hills.
I reckon we were a few streets away from Ferris’s mansion when Cole veered off the main road and then took a few turns until we ended up on a hilltop. The same cliff that I could see from my king of darkness’s balcony, though it didn’t look so menacing from this height. Yet it still looked deadly. Amazingly beautiful and altogether lethal.
Dark purple colors were dancing in never-ending fuchsia shades of toxic mists at our feet as the promise of some wandering stars was gently twinkling high above us.
‘So, what do you think?’ he asked, although I wasn’t sure what I should really think. The view was amazing, but it was not his style to be skywatching.
My curiosity could not be contained. ‘Why have you brought me here?’
‘I wanted a change. And I imagined you would appreciate this place. I’m under the impression that you didn’t have these kinds of getaways in high school.’
He would laugh his ass off if he knew what high school was like for me, or maybe he would sympathize me. Who knows? ‘I didn’t exactly have too many dates back in high school. I was more focused on theschoolpart than guys. Plus, as I told you, people in the Pit don’t usually have cars, especially in high school.’
‘Then you’re lucky you met me.’ The king of modesty was taking all merits for any kind of joy I may have had in this lifetime.
