‘Never mind. I was just worried that we were bothering you. Nat can be a little pushy at times.’

‘Nothing that a shopping session can’t fix.’

‘Yeah, about that... I appreciate what you’re doing for her, but I don’t want her to get used to a life she wouldn’t be able to afford.’ And mostly, I didn’t want her to think that money comes for free. There’s always a price to be paid, even if she’s not the one paying it for the moment.

‘What do you mean she won’t be able to afford it? Am I going bankrupt that I don’t know about?’

‘Our deal won’t last forever. There are a million things that could happen. I just want her to know what life really means, to never forget who she was.’

A dark sorrow set upon his face. ‘You’re right. It probably won’t last forever.’ No other explanation or even word. Just his arm pulling me to his chest while I was preparing myself to go straight for his bleeding heart.

‘Why so serious?’ I cast out a laugh, rushing to cover his lips in a hundred foolish kisses.

Drama needed to turn into something else this time, and I needed him to be pulled into the fantasy I was creating, not to be drifting away.

‘I still have a few minutes before I leave.’ My voice was drenched with passion, changing the rhythm with which my tongue was trailing his lips to open.

‘Minutes?’ His manly defense mechanism was setting in.

‘It’s a manner of speaking.’ I made my hand disappear beneath the sheets and glide onto that erect part of him.

All drama was spared that very second, making room for way better feelings.

‘Definitely not minutes.’ He kissed the words onto my lips.

‘Show off.’

‘You know they’re not just words.’ He quickly proceeded to show off his point.

Half an hour later, and just barely getting back from the high, I finally managed to escape his room. Had to do it the second I got the chance since remaining there would only lead to another entanglement of limbs and sheets. Besides, I had somewhere else to be. It was like I set a wheel in motion, and I couldn’t allow myself a moment to pause. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I was too afraid I’d get cold feet if I would stop.

I followed my daily routine, trying to spend a little time with Nat and Seb. That’s where I took my strength from, although you may say they were draining the last drop of energy I may have had left.

I think I stared at all the exquisite dresses hanging in my dressing room for an hour. I just couldn’t decide what to wear. That was until a black piece of material was calling me from a corner. It was a trip down memory lane, and that was exactly what I was going for. The same black dress that I bought for Brax, charged with the passion of the moments spent together.

I was betting on that passion to ignite a certain fire within him, without me actually having to say the words out loud. It wouldn’t work like that with a man like him. I had to be extra careful and play my cards right because I had a single shot at this.

I headed straight to his office. My subconscious was hoping he’d be there and not at the club with the glass wall. I still found it hard to imagine him spending time in another female’s company, and I knew that if he was at the glass room, I had every chance of finding him with another woman.

It was my lucky night since the bodyguard at the club’s front door nodded to confirm his presence in the office. The man didn’t seem pleased with my intrusion, especially without me being on any guest list. But I still managed to convince him to sneak me right in.

I wasn’t exactly out of the woods yet, and the scenario of what an unexpected visit to Brax could really mean was sending an icy chill to run through my spine. It was jealousy in its purest form. But I don’t think that was even bothering me any longer. What bothered me was that jealousy is usually born out of feelings. And I couldn’t allow myself to have any kind of feelings for a man like him. At least that was what I kept telling myself because the reality was so much different.

I felt I needed to control my shivering steps so that I could put on a detached mask as soon as I entered his office. It was a self-defense mechanism that was uselessly trying to protect me from the man who could break me with the curl of a finger.

‘Your guard told me it was okay to come in.’ I pushed the door open, waiting for his permission to go inside.

‘Come in. The guards out front already announced to me that you were here.’

‘I wasn’t aware that I was a celebrity.’

‘It isn’t every day that someone comes uninvited to invade my space.’

‘Is that what I’m doing? Invading your space?’ I slowly walked around the room, trying to avoid his gaze that seemed to be stuck examining every single one of my features. He was looking at me as if that was the first time he saw me. Totally surprised and intrigued at the same time.

‘Not for long. I have a meeting in a short while.’

‘Should I leave, then?’ It was a rhetorical question. I might have come at the wrong time, but I was planning on fully availing myself of every available minute.
