‘How about after dinner, I’ll take you to my bedroom and make youslipa couple of times more?’ He tilted his head to gently merge his lips on mine. But that didn’t excuse his arrogance or the fact that he made me die of embarrassment after he saw me with Cole.

‘Hold that thought... for acouple of days more.Jenna is coming here later for a sleepover.’

That definitely burst his bubble.

He cursed something beneath his breath, biting my lip to show off his wrath on my treacherous plans.

Still, he didn’t break off the kiss, keeping me wrapped in his arms until Alfred made his way into the room to announce dinner.

It was a hell of a merry-go-round I had jumped myself into, but Cole’s adrenaline rush, Ferris’s pain mixed with beautiful darkness, and Brax’s unmatched emotions would never let me return to a normal life.

And who gets to say what’s normal or not anyway?

For me, it was normality.

For me, it was perfection.

Chapter 16

Asleepover with Jenna.

A little white lie to tone down Ferris’s ego.

I guess that’s the problem with my kings. Their unmatchable ego and uncontested will to always have things done their way.

Ferris wasn’t going to receive any bedtime from me for the day, so actually calling Jenna to ask her over seemed like a good idea.

It was a little last minute, but she couldn’t say no to some girl time, especially since we didn’t have the chance to talk in what seemed like forever.

I sent a cab to retrieve her from her home and bring her to the base of the Hills, where the limo Ferris put at my disposal picked her up. I couldn’t send the limo directly to the Pit because it would have brought too much attention to her place, and attention down there can get you in trouble. Yet, I wanted her to travel in style, at least for as long as it was possible, especially since I knew she loved the limo rides we used to share together.

‘What happened?’ was the first thing she asked as she entered the main door.

‘Well, hello to you too.’ I walked over to her and caught her fragile body in a hug.

‘Sorry, I thought something was wrong. It felt a little last-minute notice for a sleepover,’ she said, extending her arms to respond to my embrace.

‘I have to admit it was a bit of a last-second thing. Wasn’t sure you would come.’

‘What do you mean? What are best friends for?’

‘Don’t really know. Never had one before you.’ I was being honest. I never had true friends. More like acquaintances.

‘Well, you have one now.’

‘I know... Let’s go into the kitchen and get ourselves something to eat.’ I wasn’t good at sharing emotions. Even if I knew how I felt, it was difficult getting the words out. My trust issues kept me from expressing myself, but sometimes gestures meant more than words.

‘I thought you were having dinner when you texted me?’

‘I didn’t get to eat that much.’ The truth was, I didn’twantto eat too much at dinner because I knew Jenna wouldn’t eat alone. ‘Come on, It’s Greek night. You wouldn’t believe the Moussaka the chef made. None of my clothes are going to fit if I continue this way.’

‘Hahaha, you don’t have to worry; I’ll release you of that burden. Not sure my whole house would be enough to fit your clothes, though.’

‘Or you could take one for the team and eat my portion too.’ I shrugged, pushing the kitchen double doors to open.

‘Jesus, no wonder you’re afraid of putting on a few pounds.’ Jenna looked straight at the rotating display of cakes and chocolates that was greeting anyone who walked through the doors.

‘I try not to look at them, or else I would choose this as my new room. Come, dessert after dinner. That Moussaka has to be around here somewhere.’ I was searching the countertops to see where Alfred hid the rest. ‘Ahh, the oven.’ I finally found my lost treasure.
