I still wasn’t sure how I felt about him and Brax also being part of her life. She wasn’t a toy to share any longer and there would be a time when we would need to decide what to do about our positions.

Though not then.

We had much more important things to do. Her safety came above anything else.

She and Cole might have managed to drift back off, but I remained staring at the ceiling, tormented by what those texts could really mean — and especially by who had sent them.

It was noon when they woke up. I hadn’t moved an inch by then just so I wouldn’t disturb her. However, it was time to face reality. Brax needed to be informed about the texts and I would need a large glass of alcohol to deal with his attitude.

And man did he have one...

Brax saw it as a direct attack on all of our safety and guards were assigned to watch us all, including even the guards some of us already had.

Paranoia in its purest form was running the day and everyone seem to be checking into my mansion.

Cole was almost living in my house now anyway since he had his own room from the day we brought Bea from the hospital. But Brax also moving in was making me dig deep into my pockets for another pill.

Don’t get me wrong, he was like a brother to me and I loved him in my own way, but the man was a fucking time bomb. I considered it to be just a matter of time before something would go wrong and he would blow up the roof because of it. That didn’t mean I didn’t want him along. Whatever kept Bea safe was fine by me.

An interview for the local news station managed to fill the rest of my day, pushing my patience well beyond its very last limit. It was a sacrifice I needed to make so that our plan would function and I was slowly stepping up to the challenge.

A few more days of fame followed as some other newspapers wanted to meet the man running for governor. I had been putting them off for a while. But involuntarily I had opened Pandora’s box with that interview and there wasn’t a way to shut it back down.

I needed a full day off to recover from that much socializing with strangers. Luckily, I had Cole to keep me company. We used to love playing on the PlayStation and nothing had changed regarding that.

Most of the afternoon was spent kicking his ass… although he would beg to differ. Let’s just say we were sharing some quality guys’ time when Bea interrupted our game. She was worried about Cole and had every reason to be. Something was bothering him and even if I kept asking him about it, he avoided talking to me.

I knew it was about his father. He told me that much, but he wouldn’t share any further details. I somehow understood him. I wasn’t the talkative type either, and his need to privately process what was happening was something I could relate to.

I figured Bea could help. She wasn’t going to let him struggle alone. They only needed some one-on-one time to figure things out.

To give them a break, I asked Bea to get her brother ready for a little surprise auto showroom tour, managing to get both little Sebastian and myself out of their way.

We must’ve been away for an hour or so before I was ready to return to the living room. They should have had enough time to solve theirproblemsby then.

Apparently, I was mistaken, managing to walk into the room as the walls were vibrating with Cole’s loud groans.

‘How is it that I’m always the one that only gets to watch?’ I couldn’t help myself from asking, seeing Bea straddling him on the couch. I wasn’t sure how to feel at that moment. A tint of jealousy was testing me, but it was definitely shadowed by the heat wave of arousal brewing beneath my belt. I couldn’t say I minded watching, but I sure as hell needed a little action for myself.

Funny enough, she was rearranging the purple dress she had on like there could be a chance in hell she could hide what they were doing.

The red blushes of embarrassment that flushed on her face were amusing me while her trembling voice was completing a perfectlyinnocentimage. ‘Where... where’s Seb?’ She was searching my eyes for an answer while the fear he could have been around was ruling her reason.

‘Alfred needed to go to town for some spare parts for my cars, so I let them take the Bugatti for a spin.’

‘Just them two?’ I could feel she was stalling for an answer, or worse trying to segue the conversation.

‘Them, and an army of my bodyguards. Relax... and don’t change the subject.’ I wasn’t going to let her off the hook that easily. Cole had his fun. Why shouldn’t I?

‘The subject,’ she was still stuttering, trying to figure out something to say to me. To add to her misfortune, Cole wasn’t helping her either, getting dressed and heading towards the door, leaving her to me.

I appreciated that type of silent connection. It was a step towards making whatever there was going on between the four of us work.

‘You’re in good hands. I guarantee it,’ Cole said, just as he was walking out the door. ‘Just scream if you need help.’

Oh, she would be screaming all right, but not for help.

‘Cole seemed to be feeling better.’ I was amusing myself on her account, loving to see the embarrassment heating her cheeks. ‘Is it his father you were talking about?’
