I noticed her heading towards the lobby door, and I could only let that happen over my dead body.

I wasn’t going to let her fucked-up episode of panic ruin my plans. So, before she could step into the hallway and possibly draw attention to us, I caught her in my arms. ‘Bea...Bea... Bea.’

I could sense her slowly coming back to me, yet there was something completely off about her.

It didn’t take me long to learn what was fucking up my plans. It had something to do with her family, but I didn’t have time for details as I noticed my target had suddenly become all alone in the room.

‘Shit, they left. Don’t move an inch. I’ll be back, and we’ll talk about this. Got it?’ That was all I got to say to her before I was forced to abandon her on the balcony. I had no idea what kind of a time frame I was facing, so I needed to act as fast as possible.

I double-checked for guards. The coast was clear. Before I could let that kind of opportunity go to waste, I pushed the door open. The man I’d been trying to get for almost three years — Benjamin, was finally standing in front of me. And better than that, he was standing in front of my gun.

The bastard had a debt to pay and only the cost of his life could ever settle the score. In an attempt to increase his wealth, and gain control over the largest enterprise in Echo City, Benjamin ordered the death of the Ayers family — Ferris’s family.

I saw it as my family legacy to end the worm. We were indirectly responsible for what had happened. In a lame attempt to prove his worth, my father presented to Ben the strongest assets of our town — The Ayers Company. But instead of getting the support he wanted to conquer new territories, my father found himself facing a new enemy.

My pops screwed things up, betraying friends for a stack of bills and a piece of land. Now everything had to come to an end. And I was going to close the circle.

‘Who are you? ‘ Benjamin roared the second he noticed my gun pointing at him.

‘The last person you’ll see.’ Maybe my answer was cringe. But I was only telling the truth. ‘Ferris Ayers sends his regards.’ He needed to know exactly which one of his mistakes he was paying the price for, and especially who was bringing him to his death.

I didn’t get to say anything else before my eager fingers squeezed the trigger and sent a bullet straight to his skull.

Frankly, I didn’t have time for explanations or chit-chats. And I definitely didn’t have time for what came next.

A sound similar to a cry echoed through the walls, forcing me instantly to turn and see what I was up against.

Rage — the only word suited to describe the rush of emotions racing through my veins. I wasn’t just angry. I was fucking mad as I had discovered the source of the sound — Bea. She was standing right behind me. A witness to my crime.

Every survival instinct kicked in. My hands wrapped around her neck, entrapping her against a wall, ready to deprive her of her final breath. All I saw was red, driven by the urge to kill her for her defiance. She fucking disobeyed my command and ended up a witness to my crime.

Bea’s cries didn’t stop. They just turned into whines that I was trying to silence. ‘Shut the fuck up, or you will get us both killed, and I will end youbefore I let that happen!’

I couldn’t let her alert the guards. It would have meant the end of us and I wasn’t going to die for a nice pair of tits. It was either she would shut up or my next bullet would shut her up for good.

To her luck, she came to her senses before meeting my gun. She nodded just seconds before I was going to pull the trigger, letting me know she was going to keep quiet.

I had no fucking time to waste.

Without a single clue why I was doing it, I took off my jacket and hastily wrapped it around her to cover Benjamin’s blood that was splattered all over the golden material. And there I was, getting her out the door when I should have left her inside the room with a bullet between her eyes.

There was something fundamentally wrong with me, but I didn’t have time to stay there and figure it out. We needed to get away before anyone would find out Benjamin was dead and the place would be put under lockdown.

Thefew extra glasses for the Ms’strick got us out without any suspicions. That didn’t mean Bea was out of danger. I held the biggest threat as my temper was far from being stilled.

‘What the fuck were you thinking?’ I roared the instant we reached my car, ready to tear her apart for her insubordination.

I had no idea what I would do or what I was even capable of. My judgment wasn’t my own, but one of a killer as I tried to decide between the fucked up desire still residing in my loins and the need to put her in her place after almost ruining my plan.

‘I...I..-’ she tried to say something, but words didn’t seem to take form on her lips.

Oh, I had a few things to say to her... Though I never got the chance. She was hyperventilating, throwing away the tux jacket from her shoulders just to completely freak out on me. Benjamin’s blood was covering her dress, creating an image that was sending her straight into shock.

‘Blood...blood...’ She tried ripping out the dress along with her skin to get rid of the red stains.

‘Bea!’ I roared at her, hoping that she would calm down. Yet it seemed she wasn’t even hearing me, just ripping through her skin harder, making her own blood surface, reddening everything in her way. I didn’t have the time or the inclination to deal with her PTS symptoms. I needed to do something about it.

There was only one idea circling my mind — a sedative. And I happened to have had one prepared as a backup to my mission.
