The night at my place was an exception to my own rules. I still wanted everyone under the same roof so I could keep an eye on them, and especially on Bea and her family. So, it was only logical I returned to Ferris’s place as soon as I got some of the problems out of the way. Though none of my problems wereout of the way.As usual, new challenges were awaiting for me as it wasbesties over loversevening for Bea.

I learned that only after I knocked on her door and got an annoyed ‘What now?’ out of her.

‘What now?’ I muttered, convinced that she should have figured out it was me.

Yet, she hadn’t- ‘I thought it was someone else.’

Ouch, that was a kick below the belt. ‘Someone else? Were you expecting someone else?’ I snarled, knowing that I hadn’t exactly had enough of her on the previous night.

‘Ferris was just here,’ she answered as naturally as she could.

It wasn’t even bothering me that she was spending time with Ferris, or Cole. It just bothered me that I needed some time with her for myself and a voice echoing from her room was letting me know that was impossible.

‘I’m changed,’ a freckled red-haired stepped out of the dressing room and into the bedroom. ‘Sorry,’ she mumbled visibly embarrassed by my presence.

Bea was quick to make the introductions — not that I really cared. My thoughts were drifting away to somewhere different, with a much more sinful agenda for the night. Like a ticking time bomb, I caged her on the wall next to us, ready to feel her delicate mouth trying to withstand mine.

‘I had plans for us tonight,’ I groaned against her lips, needing so much more than just furtive kisses.

‘I’m sorry, I didn’t know,’ she tried excusing herself, promising me a little something in return. ‘I’ll make sure to be all alone tomorrow night.’

‘I don’t like to be kept waiting.’ Waiting twenty-four hours to get what was mine didn’t seem a fair deal.

‘Sometimes the prize might be worth it,’ she let out a devious smile, filled with suggestive promises.

‘Am I getting some special treatment? Or what exactly should I get out of this?’ I wanted to know what I needed to look forward to, living in misery for the next day.

‘We’ll see. Depends on how you play tonight’s card,’ she bit her lower lip, getting my own to demand another kiss.

In fact, it was a distraction so I could give her a small demonstration of my own about what she should be looking forward to. ‘Oh, Bea, I always play my cards right.’ My handslippedbeneath her dress and straight into her panties.

‘What are you doing?’ she all but babbled, knowing that we were out on the hallway.

‘Nothing,’ I answered, drawing just a finger between herlipsto feel the place that wanted me.

And it was screaming to have me.

At least her turmoil was as wicked as mine. That was a thought that was easing my way back to my room. ‘I have a few phone calls I still have to make. You go back and enjoy the evening with your friend. And, Bea... think about me when you go to bed.’

I wanted her eager and needy, waiting impatiently for the moment in which she would be moaning under me again. That was the exact thought she should have gone to bed with, and woken up in the morning.

But my plans never match reality. The morning didn’t get me an eager Bea. It got me a frightened one.

I was just on my way to check on the cashing up at the club when Cole’s guard called me about an incident at the Academy. For a second, I almost dropped the phone, but hearing another name except Bea’s momentarily calmed me. Not that there could be a single cell in my body calm in those seconds. Her freckled friend had been shot dead!

I was boiling like the lava in a volcano, steering my car straight through the Academy’s gates.

There was nothing else driving me there except the need to see with my own eyes that Bea was safe.

The crowd gathered around the courtyard didn’t matter, not even the body lying on the ground mattered. All I needed was to get to Bea.

And I did.

I found myself holding her in my arms, though without actually reaching her. She wasn’t there, just drifting away to a place where reality couldn’t touch or hurt her.

‘Bea. Are you okay?’ I was calling her back to me as my hands kept roaming her body to make sure she hadn’t been hurt. I couldn’t go through with what happened at the governor’s house all over again. I refused to let that thought into my mind.

Still, she wasn’t answering.
