She almost ran from my bed, grabbing her clothes as she was getting ready to leave.

‘Then perhaps I should call you for another Pleasure.’ I should have let her leave, but I didn’t feel capable of renouncing her.

‘Please don’t. I can’t return here.’ She spoke like she was afraid of me...of us.

But what could have scared her more than a knife!?

I couldn’t understand, but I couldn’t force her either, no matter how badly I needed her to accept the deal.

‘Alfred should be home by now. Look for him downstairs. Just tell him where you live, and he’ll make sure you get home. I’m not too good at goodbyes.’ I spoke, watching her leave. I had no other choice than wait and hope that she would return. She felt the sparks and sensed the magic. It was only a matter of reason versus the calling of our bodies, and I had a feeling that from that moment on,nothingwould ever be the same.

Chapter 17

Time seemed to pass by with more difficulty than before. Hours burdened with the sound of many voices beckoning from my memories, weakening me until my knees would collapse to the floor.

I had had hope, and that hope had been taken away, shattered through fields of pain to lay alongside the rest of the weight that sat on my shoulders.

Funny how I was beginning to have the feeling that I was even more lost than before, staring deep into the orange flames, while they were weaving their destiny to leap up the chimney and dissipate into the night sky above.

A couple of days had gone by without receiving an answer from Bea. I wasn’t even expecting one anymore.

I kept staring out on the balcony, searching the deep corners of my mind for a moment of peace.

Though no peace came.

I somehow managed to convince myself that a hot shower could help ease the tension building up between my temples.

I had already all but given up when I heard noises coming from inside my room.

Then someone called out. A voice I had prayed to be hearing again, ‘Ferris.’

Initially, I thought it was my imagination playing tricks on me. It wouldn’t have been the first time that happen.

But it was reality.

Bea was glowing in the orange candlelight.

‘You said you wouldn’t return,’ I murmured, barely managing to control the sick joy raising the corners of my lips into a fully wide grin.

She was back, and that could only mean one thing. She was mine.

I immediately noticed the uncontained hunger gleaming in her eyes. It was the same unstoppable magnetism that was making me vibrate toward her.

She seemed even shyer than the last time she was in my room, and that lost deer look was causing something dark from within me to emerge into life.

‘I changed my mind,’ she breathed the words, avoiding any eye contact at all costs.

I was beginning to think that her attempt to eschew herself from looking at me had something to do with me having only a towel covering my body. ‘I should put something on.’

‘Yes, thank you.’ She nodded.

In reality, putting clothes on shouldn’t even have been on that night’s list. However, I wanted to make the situation as easy as possible for her to handle. At least until she could tell me the reasons that brought her back to my chamber.

I left for a few minutes to get a pair of black jeans and the ripped tank top that defined my signature style. Maybe I had lost my mind but not my good looks. I knew what would please a woman and I also knew how to make an appearance — with or without clothes.

‘So, in what way did you change your mind?’ I kind of knew the answer to that question but I wanted to hear her say it.

‘About your proposal, andI don’t want to go back to the Pleasure Room anymore.’
