“Relax,” he says, startling me a little. “I can see you need to. And I have work to catch up on. Get some rest. You’ll need your energy when we touch down.” He winks.

“You’re sure I can’t keep you company?” I say feebly.

“You’ll be bored. Close those beautiful eyes, Solnishko. I’ll let you know when it’s time to get moving.”

I stare for a moment, still confused, still waiting for him to say something to leave me unsettled. It doesn’t come. Instead, he leans forward a little, and brushes his fingertips down my cheek. I press my face against his hand and for a second we freeze like that. Abruptly, he sits back, giving me a small smile before turning his attention back to his tablet. No animosity. No motive I can pinpoint.

I’m unsettled.

Who is this man, and what has he done with my husband?

CHAPTER FIVE

Lev

I know the moment she falls asleep.

I place the tablet on the armrest while I watch her. She looks beautiful and pure while sleeping, but I know better. It’s only her exterior.

If only that wasn’t the case.

I mutter a curse under my breath. Despite knowing what she truly is and what she is capable of, I’m still reacting to her.

I stare at her slightly parted lips and swallow a groan as I recall how they had wrapped around my finger as she sucked it. The image sends a signal to my dick. Her long lashes fan her face. Her hair falls forward, and the urge to caress her soft skin is irresistible. I rise, step closer, and then squat beside her.

Why the fuck did things have to turn out this way?

I reach out to brush the hair from her face. She stirs and I catch a glimpse of her pink tongue as she swipes it along her lower lip. I notice how uncomfortable her neck looks, yet she’s sleeping, regardless. She looks exhausted.

I half-wonder what the fuck she was doing with her so-called “aunt.” Lucky for me, I have the right people sniffing around as we speak. It’s only a matter of time before I find out who she’s working with and what they’re planning. Until then, she must believe that I have no idea what she really is up to. She can’t find out that her cover has been blown.

At least not yet.

I stare at her for a moment, before reaching for a cushion and tucking it behind her head. Her lips curl up in response and I’m breathless for a second. If only she could stay this sweet. If only…

I shake it off and turn back to my tablet. I pretend to ignore her, when in fact, it’s impossible not to feel her near, inhale her scent.

Goddammit.

It’s hours before I allow myself to look at her again. By then, the cabin crew are advising that it’s time to fasten our seatbelts. Leaning forward, I squeeze the curve of her shoulder, waiting as her eyes flicker and then flash open. She sucks in a breath, staring at me in confusion as sleep keeps its grip.

“Buckle up, beautiful,” I say. “We’re about to touch down.”

“Where are we?” she asks as she reaches for her own seatbelt.

“Miami,” I tell her, watching her eyes grow wide.

“For real?” she says in astonishment.

“Buckle up,” I repeat. I watch her fumble with the seatbelt moments before the plane begins its descent. The motion of her fingers distracts me as I imagine them removing the belt of my pants, making me have to pull myself together all over again.

All in good time…

It takes a few minutes before we land. It takes another few minutes before we disembark and get into the waiting limousine.

She’s silent as we leave the airport.

“She likes you a lot,” she finally says.
