It’s never felt awkward to snuggle with Joe or any of my other clients before, but today it feels a little off. I’m not convinced Luke is “the one” but my connection with him does make me wonder if I’ll be forced to give up a career I genuinely love to be with someone romantically.

An hour later, I’m walking downstairs with them to put them in the limo to the mob museum. Joe tells me he’s ready for some alone time in front of the TV when he gets back, so I don’t have to come back this evening like we originally planned. June is going to enjoy her spa treatments, and in the morning, the limo will take them back to the airport.

This goodbye feels hard, and I can’t explain why.

“Thank you for everything, Zara,” Joe murmurs into my hair when he hugs me.

“Hey, don’t sound so sad. We’ll see each other again in a couple of weeks.”

He shakes his head and kisses my cheek. “Something tells me we won’t. But I’m happy for you.”

I laugh. “Oh, come on. I already told you it’s not like that. I’m not walking away from my career for a guy I met less than two weeks ago.”

He smiles at me knowingly and shakes his head. “You just haven’t seen it yet, but you will soon. Either way, I hope we can always be friends.”

“Try to stop me from being your friend,” I say, ruffling my hand through his hair.

He smacks my arm away and hugs me again. “Love you, Zara.”

When I walk out of his room, Luke is waiting for me with another cup of coffee.

“Thanks,” I murmur as he slips his hand into mine.

“They’re excited about the museum,” I say.

He smiles. “Good.”

We’re silent on the drive to his office, which is nothing like I expected. I’m used to offices in tall skyscrapers, but that’s not what Las Vegas is like at all. It’s funny the things I’ve forgotten since I moved away.

The office space is small, and most of the square footage is taken up by the fleet of vehicles and the security needed to keep them safe.

Luke holds my hand as he introduces me to Clara, his cousin. The woman who brought clothes to his room not long after we arrived.

“Lovely to meet you.”

“Zara will be in my office. Please knock before you come in,” Luke barks before he drags me into his office and kicks the door shut.

I don’t miss Clara’s shocked expression before the door slams shut.

“You realize now she thinks you’re fucking me in here, right?”

He shoves me against the edge of his desk and bends to kiss my neck. “What if that’s exactly what I intend to do?” he whispers, sending shivers down my spine.

“Does she have a habit of entering rooms without knocking?”

Luke shrugs. “She’s my office manager and my cousin. Sometimes she thinks that gives her liberties that it doesn’t.”

That makes me laugh. Family can be that way sometimes. Especially family that works for you. Of course, I’ve never employed family, but my aunt used to work for my mom, and I can remember her being that way.

“I notice you didn’t answer my question,” he says, trailing kisses down to my cleavage.

“I’m not opposed to it. We both know I’m a bit of an exhibitionist.”

“Yeah? Are you saying you hope one of my drivers hears you coming all over my cock?”

I bite my lip and lift one shoulder with a coy smile on my face. Honestly, I don’t care who hears me as long as they aren’t going to get the law involved.

He hums. “My desk, the club, the hotel… where else can I fuck you this week?”
