“Apologies,” he snapped, still thoroughly pissed off but trying to reign it in. “But my question stands. What the hell is going on?”

“How did you get him to stop yelling at you?” Briar grumbled.

I glanced at her and shrugged. “I’ve proven my strength, and he doesn’t want to be put on his ass.”

I could see the cogs turning in her mind as she processed that information, leaving me to face Spencer again.

“Briar says my pack are in danger,” I explained. “She can get the portal working. I need to go home.”

He frowned but it was Linc that spoke, stepping up next to his Alpha with a worried expression. “So you’re just running into danger?”

I blinked at him. “I’m going to defend them, I have to.”

He nodded. “Of course, no one is questioning that. What we mean is, do you actually think we would let you walk into a fight on your own?”

Spencer gave me an exasperated look as I fell into a confused silence. “Cor, seriously? You’re basically pack. You’re not doing this alone.”

“She’s not alone!” quipped Briar, huffing as Spencer just shot her a dark look.

I shook my head, holding up a palm at him as I realised what they were saying. “No, no, no. Not you too. I can’t stop my sister from going home, but I amnotdragging you guys into this. No way.”

Linc chuckled, arrogantly jerking his chin at the watching pack. “Shall we put it to a vote?”

I glowered at him, letting my fingers spark with power. “This is not a democracy, blondie.”

He just grinned wider. “Bring it, witch.”

Spencer held up his hands, his voice ringing with Alpha strength. “Ok, stop. She’s right.”

Linc whipped his head toward Spencer in shock even as he fell silent under the command.

I grinned mockingly at him until Spencer’s next words had me scowling again.

“It isn’t a democracy. What I say goes.”

“I am not under your command, Alpha, you can’t tell me what to do,” I snapped.

He raised a brow at me indignantly. “True. But I can ask my strongest wolves to come with me to fight alongside you, and there’s not much you can do to stop us.”

I growled at him, the pathetic sound making Linc laugh again.

Spencer turned his attention back to my sister. “Would you stop us from going through the portal, knowing that we can help and protect you both?”

She swallowed, darting a glance at me that made me groan, knowing what she was going to say.

“C,” she pleaded. “He’s right. We can use all the help we can get.”

I rounded on her. “And if they die?! Can you live with that? Because I can’t!”

She met Spencer’s gaze and gave a soft shrug. “They’re adults, they can make their own choices. If they care about you enough to take the risk, who am I to argue?”

I shook my head again, refusing to back down.

“No. It’s not happening. I will bind you all in vines and lock you in your cabins before I let you come with us. You havenoidea how dangerous the Queen is.”

I glared at Spencer, who stood passively as he watched my meltdown.

“You are not coming, Spence. And that’s the end of it.”
