My breath caught as he leaned forward and rested his chin on his hand, deliberately tapping one finger on his cheek in a clear signal meant only for me. My core clenched at the dark promise in his gaze, hyper aware of the fact that we hadn’t been alone at all since I’d found my way back. With everything that had happened, as well as the emotional fallout of it all, sex just hadn’t been on the cards with either of my guys. After last night, though, I sensed the temporary dry spell was about to come to an explosive end.

Seeming oblivious to our exchange, Zeke answered. “I wasn’t far, I never was. I was at the Mage Stone.”

Mention of the stone structure where I’d called him out grabbed my attention. “Mage Stone? How come I’ve never been there before last night?”

Noah shrugged. “Because it’s not important. It doesn’t mean or do anything, it’s just a lump of rock that scares the shit out of the kids.”

The others grinned knowingly, Zeke giving in to my obvious curiosity as he explained. “There’s a legend that it’s a relic of the ancient witches, and if you touch the witches’ mark under the moonlight the Crone will grab you and drag you down into her lair.”

I felt the disbelieving look creep over my face, making them all chuckle.

“Yeh, we know, it’s just a creepy story that the kids like to tell. It’s basically a right of passage to go out there after dark and touch the thing.”

Liam started laughing harder as he pointed at Noah. “Remember how loud you screamed when Saffy jumped out at you when it was your turn?”

Noah scowled at him. “I did not scream.”

“Dude, the whole village heard you,” Zeke argued with a grin. “And then you refused to speak to Saf for almost a month.”

I couldn’t help the giggles that fell from my mouth, making Noah pout at me pathetically, a playful glint in his eye that I loved.

“Is there actually a mark on it?” I asked, trying to remember the tall structure I’d only seen in the darkness.

Liam nodded. “Yup, like a weird rune.”

Noah tipped his head thoughtfully. “I always saw it as a maze.”

“Can you show me?” I asked, making them look at me in surprise.

“It’s just a myth, Cordy,” Zeke replied, and I shrugged.

“Yeh, I know, but I’m curious, and it’s not far.”

Noah smiled widely at me, but Liam cut in before he could speak.

“I’ll take you.”

“Aren’t you busy,Alpha?” Noah quipped, frowning at him. “I can take her.”

“I’m not on patrol for a few hours, I’ll go,” Zeke offered, making me clear my throat pointedly as I got to my feet.

“And when did I become a toy for you guys to fight over?” I asked, sarcasm dripping from my tone.

Noah and Zeke had the decency to look a little ashamed, but Liam just smirked and stood too.

“You want to go? I’m taking you. End of discussion.”

I rolled my eyes as I felt him push Alpha strength into his words, effectively pulling rank over the others to get his way.

“I’ve changed my mind,” I snapped. “I don’t want to go.”

Lifting a hand, he pointed at me across the table as his wolf flashed close to the surface. “Strike two, Princess.”

I huffed, gathering my dirty dishes and dumping them in the sink before facing them again.

“You can’t use that power over them, Liam,” I said simply. “Not with relationship stuff. You don’t outrank them in my heart.”

His eye twitched, hurt and shame trickling down our bond.
