Kirsten wanted to get to know him, but the employer-employee relationship was holding her back. However, that didn’t stop her from having a good look.

HENRY

Henry knew that he was in love with Kirsten. His heart raced when she was around, and his mouth went dry. He had a whole list of signs that were telling him that, and he had never felt this way about Sher.

“Good morning,” he said as he stepped into the kitchen. His heart skipped a beat seeing Kirsten standing at the counter, feeding Zara. His tiger growled, wanting him to hold her close.

He knew that wasn’t a good idea. It seemed that Kirsten was trying to keep a distance between them, and he hoped it was just because of their employee-employer relationship.

But what else could it be? He’d been nothing but friendly around her, and he didn’t think he’d done anything off color. Well, he could only hope. He figured once they spent more time together, he could see whether his tiger wanted to be with her or not.

What if I seduced her? I could make her fall in love with me just like I’m falling for her. I could get her flowers. I could take her out for a nice dinner. We could watch the stars late at night.

He knew he should first get to know her just in general. After all, she was watching his daughter all day, every day. It was the least he could do. It was for Zara. For Zara’s safety.

Yeah, use Zara as a reason to get to know Kirsten better.

“How did you sleep?” Kirsten asked as she burped Zara. She slowly shifted on her feet and rounded the counter. He bit his lip to keep himself from growling. He liked how her dress was hugging her today.

“I slept well, and yourself?”

“Good, but I did hear some noise last night. It woke me up really early this morning.”

He frowned. Ever since Kirsten was working for him, he’d been having problems with people coming onto his land. Shifters, to be more specific. He had wolf, bear, and tiger shifters all spotted around his home. He hated it.

He lived a very secluded and quiet life, so he had no idea why others were coming onto his land and why now in particular. It irritated him, especially not knowing what was happening.

He didn’t think he had any secrets to conceal, but the feeling that he was being spied on seemed to grow with each passing day. He’d been trying to get a handle on it, but it wasn’t working.

You need to get this under control. Kirsten will only agree to be indoors for so long before she wants out. She’s only human.

He knew he needed to protect Zara, and now he had to protect Kirsten since she lived with them. But Kirsten wasn’t a damsel in distress, either. She was able to take care of herself.

He needed to think of something quick, so he waved a hand. “It’s that time of year. Random animals are migrating around. Should die down in a little bit.”

She looked at him for a second but seemed pleased with his words and shrugged. “I guess.”

She placed the bottle she was using into the sink and turned towards him. “What are your plans today?”

His plan today had originally involved relaxing, but now he had a feeling that wasn’t how today was going to go. He needed to check his property.

“Work.” It gave him an excuse to be outside and more of a reason to be gone longer.

He gave Zara a kiss and headed outside. Immediately, he smelled another animal nearby. He hated it. It made every nerve in his body go on high alert.

You need to figure out why all these animals are coming onto your land. You need to figure it out now.

He walked away from the house and rounded the barn. Once he knew he was out of view of Kirsten and Zara, he shifted. He allowed his tiger to take over and headed off into the woods.

The scent of the other animals grew closer, and he knew he might catch whoever it was. It was another tiger shifter. He knew that much.

If you catch this person, you can figure out what’s happening. You can figure out what it is they want.

He reminded himself to call about getting trail cameras installed around the perimeter of his property so he could have a better eye on things. He wanted to at least be able to see when they came and where they went.

While that might help you, it still leaves you with too many unanswered questions, Henry. You still don’t know why they are coming, and you don’t know what they are looking for.
