“Having a blissful marriage with you.”

He reached over to take her hand. “I can agree with that just as much.”

She beamed as he drove the car, ready for whatever their future held.

Two years later, they were driving to the hospital. Zara was bouncing in her car seat, and Henry was driving, gripping the steering wheel tightly. She couldn’t help but laugh at him.

“Henry, darling, it’s fine.”

“It’s not.” He looked at her. “You’re in labor in the middle of a storm.”

Zara giggled in the backseat, wiggling in her car seat.

“Henry, I’m fine, honestly. It’s hardly started.”

As he drove, he refused to take his eyes off the road until they pulled into the hospital. He ran around the car, opening the door for her. “Alright, alright. We’ve got this.”

He was talking to himself, and she smiled, knowing he was trying to remain calm. She wondered if this was how he had acted when Zara had been born.

“Henry, I’m doing okay.” She was. Her labor had started, but the pain wasn’t too bad as of right then. She knew it wouldn’t last, but they were at the hospital, and that was what mattered.

He helped her out and grabbed Zara out of the car. He held her hand as they all walked up to the hospital.

This wasn’t their plan. She wasn’t due for another three weeks, but the baby had other plans. Her water had broken while she was cooking dinner, and Henry had nearly tripped over himself getting them ready.

As they settled into her room, her labor started to intensify. She was uncomfortable and looked at Zara. She sat in the corner, holding the stuffed bunny Sher had given her when she was last down for a visit. She tried to think about the joy that the baby was going to bring. Zara was going to have a sibling.

They didn’t know what it was, since they decided to be surprised. They had a name picked for each gender and a room ready for whatever they had.

She laid down, resting her eyes for a moment. She knew everything was going to change, and once it did, it was never going to be the same.

Ten hours later, after what felt like forever, she finally gave birth to their son. Henry beamed as the doctor handed him over. The boy cried out as Henry moved closer to her and Zara. He bent down so they could see, and Zara smiled at the baby.

“Isn’t he beautiful?” Henry asked, wiping the baby’s face.

“What’s his name?” Zara asked as she pulled a hand up, looking at his face.

“Jonathan. His name is Jonathan.”

Zara giggled as she looked at her brother, and Kirsten took a deep breath in staring at them. She looked at her husband and how happy he was holding their son and looking at their daughter. She couldn’t help but feel she’d been blessed. She had everything she’d ever wanted in life.
