He stepped away, allowing her to go. He really didn’t want to, but he understood where she was coming from. This was still new, and he needed to convince her.

The kisses told him she wanted him just as badly as he wanted her. He knew that much. It would have been easy to convince her, and she wouldn’t have fought him, but he gave her space.

It was no secret that humans took a little longer to agree to something, and he knew they had time.

We’ve only just started to get to know each other, and things will be easier in time.

He rubbed his eyes, needing to focus.

The next morning, he got a call while he was having his coffee. A client was able to receive their woodwork now since they had just gotten back from vacation, which meant a trip into town.

He glanced at Zara and Kirsten, knowing Kirsten would love a day out of the house. He could tell she needed a little time away from the cabin.

“Kirsten, I have a piece I have to ship out today. Would you and Zara like to go with me into town?”

Kirsten looked at him, and he watched her face light up. She did.

“Of course.”

“We’ll leave in half an hour.” He pushed himself up out of his chair and set his coffee cup in the sink. “I’ll meet you at the truck.”

He went out and loaded the piece in the truck, making sure to tie it down. He could hear footsteps behind him, and he turned. Kirsten had changed into a nice pair of jeans and a tight white shirt. He internally groaned, wishing he knew how she looked underneath.

“Alright.” He opened the door for Kirsten. “I’ll strap Zara in.” He took Zara, needing to do something with his hands. Otherwise, he would have grabbed Kirsten and kissed her again.

After getting Zara in her seat, he pulled out of the driveway and headed into town. It was a short thirty minute ride, and they chatted during the drive.

As they pulled into town, he stopped at a light. “Grand Junction doesn’t open up for another hour, so how do you feel about lunch?”

Kirsten nodded her head, taking in the town. He watched her, enjoying the way she lit up about things.

“I guess that’s okay.”

They pulled up to a small cafe that served deli foods. He’d been to it a couple of times, knowing they had several options. It also sat on a river, and the view was another reason he liked it. Kirsten was blown away.

He grabbed the handles of the stroller and gave Kirsten a smile as they stepped inside. “You order whatever you want, and I’ll go find our seats.”

She gave him a smile in return, and the cashier even chuckled. “You two sure make a happy new couple.”

Kirsten blushed, and he couldn’t help but laugh. He turned the stroller, heading outside onto the porch.

They had lunch, enjoying the view while eating. Kirsten spotted a shop across the river, and he glanced at his watch. “We can stop by. We still have fifteen minutes before the junction opens.”

He pushed the stroller while Kirsten walked ahead of them. She looked at the river and then at all the flowers that were blooming. He took a mental picture.

Maybe we can plant some flowers out at the cabin. Maybe she would like the pop of color.

They went into the boutique she had spotted, and Kirsten squealed with glee. He chuckled. He didn’t think she could get any happier.

He watched her go through the clothes and then the jewelry. Even Zara seemed to enjoy herself, staring at a toy hanging by the register.

After they had bought a few things, they headed back to the car. He buckled Zara in and put the stroller away.

They arrived at the junction ten minutes later. With some help from another worker, he was able to get the piece packaged and shipped within an hour.

He hopped back into the truck and looked at Kirsten. “Well, would you like to go downtown? They have a bunch of other small shops to see.”

She agreed quickly.
