“So, you’re one of the elusive heirs?”

“Not sure what’s so elusive about it, but that would be a yes.”

He tilts his head, pursing his lips. “It seems to be like a special kind of club or something.”

“No special club. At least if there is one, I’ve never been invited.”

He shrugs, but there’s something weird about the way his body tenses. I pull my tray towards me, sliding it off the table. Instead of taking the hint, he stands with me and follows me to the door.

“I was wondering something,” he tells me, placing a hand on my arm to stop my steps. Spinning to face him, I pop a hand on my hip, waiting. “You wanna get dinner with me some time, like a date?”

“Oh, er—” I pause, unsure how to answer. I’m not big on dating anyway, but something about this guy doesn’t sit right with me. He seems nice enough on the surface. His chestnut brown hair is short and curly, stopping just above his brow and his eyes are a deep blue that remind me of the ocean. I’m not sure if it’s the way he holds his tall frame, towering over me as if I were insignificant, or the annoyance I saw flickering in his eyes when he spoke of the guys; the vibe he gives, just feels off.

Before I can say no, my phone beeps from my pocket with a text. I fish it out, opening the notification.

Theodore: Rule number three – no dating

Moving my gaze over the hallway, I come up empty; though, I know he’s nearby somewhere, if he heard Adam asking.

“You know what,” I say, passing my phone to him so he can put his number in. “I’d love to go on a date with you.”

He smiles widely, almost feral-like, as he hands my phone back. A shiver passes down my spine, and I’m already regretting this decision but then I think of Theodore.

A smile lifts my lips, the first in days.

Fuck him and fuck his rules.

I move down the hall, a pep in my step that wasn’t there earlier. I feel giddy. Giddy at the thought of disobeying him.

TEN

Thatfuckingsmile.Thereare few things more infuriating than a smile stolen by someone it doesn’t belong to. While I appreciate the entertainment Fallon is getting from daring to defy me, I’m fucking furious it’s with him.

Adam fucking Nielson.

That guy wants to claim things that don’t belong to him, and if Fallon was anyone but a Marsh, he wouldn’t be wasting his time talking to her. Not because she isn’t beautiful.

She is.

She’s so fucking beautiful it hurts to look at her sometimes.

But because she wouldn’t be able to give him the power he craves in these halls.

My phone buzzes in my hand with an incoming text from Gage asking about fight night tonight. I quickly respond, telling him to get my name on the roster. Maybe breaking a nose or two might relieve some of this tension I’ve been feeling since Fallon walked into the dorms on Saturday morning.

Shoving my phone in my bag, I pass Adam on my way down the hall. His eyes are locked on Fallon’s arse as it sways while she walks, and a shit-eating grin is spread over his face. I want nothing more than to wipe it away with my fist.

But I won’t.

Not today, anyway.

He turns, offering me a fist bump, but I ignore him. He’s been a fucking thorn in our side since he stepped foot on campus last year. He seems to think that by trying to get in good with the heirs, he’ll make something of himself around here. While that may be true for some, it would never work for him. He’s too fucking creepy.

There are rumours about him involving girls that I don’t fucking like. I’m all for getting a girl underneath me, but when I do, it’s because she wants it, not because I’ve forced the issue. Which he seems to have a problem with, if the whispers are to be believed.

“I spoke to Fallon today,” Kyle tells me the moment I step through the door. Why he’s in my dorm, I don’t know, but since he’s got a bag of weed spread out on my coffee table, I don’t care to ask.

I grab a beer from the fridge, popping the cap, and dropping down onto the couch.
