I kiss her tears and cause her to laugh now. "I can't imagine a life without you."

"Me too. My life would be one dark tunnel."

I clutch her hand tighter. "Then let's run away together, me and you, right now."

Adeline's eyes widen. She can't believe what she's hearing and I expected this kind of reaction. I only thought about this a few seconds ago when I walked into the cabin.

Why not run away with Adeline? This is about me and her, not anyone else, not her brothers. We don't have to fight them. We don't have to join a new pack to exact revenge on them. This is our future and nothing is going to stop us from building it together.

"Come with me, Adeline." I lift her hands gently and kiss the back of them. "Let's make this about us."

"What about revenge?" Adeline searches my face for an answer. "Don't you want to make them pay?"

"I choose you, not my rage, not my vengeance. Don’t you know how much I love you, Adeline? I'm willing to sacrifice everything. You're mine and I'm never going to lose you."

My words bring more tears to her eyes. She sniffles and begins to cry. I place her chin on my shoulder and rub her back.

"You have no idea how happy I am. I want to be yours forever, Luke. If I have to leave everything behind for you, I'm not even going to take a second look."

I lift her face from my shoulder and peer into her eyes. Tears gather at the corners of mine too. It's like hearing the bells of triumph ringing in my heart and feeling the clouds of joy underneath me. Words can't express how I feel and I can only show it by pressing my lips on Adeline's and kissing her until we both can’t breathe.

When we break apart, my lips tingle with the warmth of her love and my body is wrapped in the embrace of our connection.

"So, you're coming with me?" I ask her.

"Of course."

I stand up and pull her to her feet. "Let's go. Right now. We'll take the western route out of here and end up at the bus station."

We are almost to the door when Adeline pauses and asks, "What about Fena?"

"What about her?"

"We should tell her, right?"

"Tell me what?" Fena asks, standing in the doorway to the kitchen. She must have come in through the back door.

"We’re leaving."

Fena frowns, spreads her hands and gives a silent “what?”

"Together,” Adeline clarifies. She smiles at me, tangling her arm with mine.

Fena scoffs, probably not believing her ears. "Now? You're both leaving now?"

"Yes, Fena," I respond this time. "There's no point trying to build a future with Adeline in this chaos. I love her and I don't want to spend an uncertain life with her."

"But you can't just leave. There are wolves out now." Fena approaches us, the warning in her eyes raw. "They are going to find the two of you."

"We'll avoid them."

Fena takes a deep breath. "Honestly, I'm not trying to discourage you two. But we all know wolves are very active at night. The best cover is at day. By then, the enemy wolves would have gone to their pack. Don't risk this. You've got something special and a stupid mistake shouldn't ruin it."

I face Adeline to note what she thinks about that. The look in her eyes is enough to tell me she agrees with Fena. So do I.

“Okay, we’ll spend the night. It’ll give us a chance to rest.”

Fena rolls her eyes. “Yeah, right. Rest.” She walks to the couch and turns on the TV. “Sleep well,” she says, putting way too much emphasis on the word “sleep.”
