Remembering the look on Drake’s face, I grimace. Yeah. Not sure if that was the right thing to do or not. But I know that I can’t take the chance that Drake is just playing some kind of game with me. I’ve got responsibilities.

“Mrs. Cannon? I’m here.”

I peek around the doorframe to my bedroom. “How many times have I told you not to call me that, Jess?”

“I know. But I just can’t call you Promise. My mom says that’s wrong. You’re my employer.”

The pretty fifteen-year-old smiles and Justin smiles back, dazzled. I know he’s got a crush on her and it makes me smile at the same time as it makes my heart hurt.

My boy’s growing up and sooner than I wish, he’ll be leaving me and I’ll be alone again.

This time for good.

“Thanks, Jess. My car is on the way. I really appreciate you fitting me in. Your mom told me you’ve got a big test tomorrow so it’s fine if you need to study.”

“I know. But first Justin and I are going to play some Battle Cry!”

Justin punches the air. “Yes! I am going to beat you!”

Both of us laugh and I hear the honk outside. “Gotta go!” I kiss Justin’s cheek and smirk when he tries to rub it off.

“Mom! Stop that!”

“I’ll see you guys later.”

Then I climb into the car and let my mind drift on the drive. Unfortunately, it just wants to think about Drake. All six foot three, two hundred pounds of him.

The houses that we pass are decorated with dancing lights and my mind wanders back to the first Christmas with Justin.

It was magical. I wrapped presents in the middle of the night and ate a bite out of the cookie. And James didn’t do a damn thing and that should have been a big fucking red flag right there.

But it took several more years before it all came to a head and I found out that he cheated on me. Got his girlfriend pregnant too. After telling me that he didn’t want anymore children.

I guess he just didn’t want them with me.

But that’s all right. Because I love my son. And if I need to be mother and father then I will.

We pull up in front of the brightly-lit office building and I grin up at the huge Christmas tree out front that’s lit up with hundreds of lights and huge colored bulbs.

I grimace when I see Drake standing out front. He stalks over and hands the driver a tip and opens the door.

“Hello, Promise. You look beautiful.” His eyes darken and slide down my body and I flush. It feels like he’s touched me everywhere his eyes touch. Tingles and electricity fire up underneath my skin like I’ve been zapped.

“What are you doing out here?” I stand and almost fall back on my three inch heels when he doesn’t move back. “Could you move back, Drake? You’re kinda backing me into a corner here!”

He backs away but I still feel the heat of his body washing over me like a summer breeze.

“I wanted to make sure you got here alright. I know my buddy came and picked up your car so you don’t have a vehicle.”

“Right. Well, thank you for giving me his card. He seems like a very nice man.”

He snorts. “Depends what you call nice.”

I chuckle. “Sometimes I almost think that you’re a nice man, Drake. So apparently my standards aren’t all that high.”

His smile is charming enough to get most women out of their panties quite easily but I’m not that damn easy!

My pussy clenches and I grit my teeth, hoping that I’m hiding what’s going on down south because I definitely don’t want this man to have that advantage.
