I finish putting my shirt on, and start heading out of the room. "Okay. Give me 20 minutes and I'll be filling you up for once."

I don't wait for a reply, but I hear his snort as I head out towards the kitchen.

It's going to be a good day.

Chapter two

"That'samazingyougotthe trial!" Carmen grins at me from the opposite side of the kitchen bench.

I've decided to make pancakes for everyone since my new roommates came to investigate the smell.

Carmen is a bundle of energy, even in the mornings. She's very full of life, bubbly, and honestly the opposite of me. But we feed off each other, which I love.

"I knew you would," Jasmine says, reaching around me to grab the coffee pot. "You make the best drinks for beer pong."

"Shouldn't it just be beer?" Jeremy laughs, stretching his legs out onto an adjacent chair at the table.

I give him a grin. "Don't be boring, Jer. Beer pong is much more interesting when you add surprise drinks in the mix. It adds suspense… will I land the shot? And will it just be beer, or am I making my opposite down a disgusting mix of Jager and Red Bull?"

He laughs, pulling out his phone. "Point taken. I swear I'm still hungover from last week though. I don't know what you put in one of those cups, but my liver hates you."

"As long as your stomach loves me," I say, walking over and handing him a plate of pancakes.

Jeremy looks at the plate, putting his phone down. "It fucking does, Ry. Who needs a liver, anyway?"

I look up as footsteps make their way towards us. Chuck pokes his head in the room, giving us all a warm smile. He's managed to tame his hair, slicking it back as usual. And if we weren't surrounded by company, I'd probably grab the whipped cream and have my way with him in the kitchen. He's wearing dark denim jeans and a fitted, black cotton shirt.

Chuck sees me checking him out, giving me a "behave" look while laughing. Carmen looks between us, laughing.

"You pair are hilarious. Ry… don't burn my pancakes. It's not fair if Jeremy gets all the good ones."

I pile some onto a plate for her, pushing it towards her with the sugar. "I would never do that to you, my darling. Grade A pancakes, all the way."

Carmen blows me a kiss before sitting down next to Jeremy. Jasmine is waiting next to me, plate in her hands like she's auditioning for Oliver Twist.

"Don't leave me hanging, boo. I forgot to eat dinner last night because Jeremy burnt an egg. AN EGG!"

Jeremy looks up, mortified. "Are we still on that? I said I was sorry."

Jasmine waves him off, giving me a pout. "The whole kitchen smelt like rotten farts. Killed my appetite."

I snort, looking over at Jeremy, who has turned a bright shade of red.

"Sorry, Jer. I'm laughing with you, not at you."

He glares at me as best as possible, his mouth full of pancake. "Uh-huh. Sure."

I wink at Jasmine, filling her plate while she bounces excitedly. Her jet-black hair is down; the ends nearly at her waist as she turns to head to the table. I get smacked by her locks, but her vibe reminds me so much of Amy from Evanescence, that I could never stay mad at her.

Chuck heads around the bench, boxing me in. He's trying to act coy, but I know better. He's in a playful mood, and he knows I'm a sucker for it.

"Do I get some too?" he asks, his chest brushing my arm.

"Do you want some?"

My innuendo isn't lost on him, as he grins his pearly whites at me. "Always, babe."

"Pervert," I mutter, turning and shoving a plate full of pancakes at him. He goes to turn, but quickly swats me on the ass playfully. I stumble in shock, glaring at him as his eyes dance playfully while he struts away.
