Confusion crosses my face and look in the dark towards the pond. "Down there?"

She nods. "Yeah. Just don't trip down the path."

"And you want me to go now?" I ask, concerned because going down after the ceremony was fine while it was light, but I'm in a floor length dress and four inch heels and it's dark.

"Take your phone for a flash light. I'll save you some cake," she mutters, turning to greet a guest behind us.

I watch her walk away, my eyebrow raised. I guess I have no choice.

I go and fetch my phone from the bridal table and head back outside, walking away from the building towards the pathway to head to the pond. There's fairy lights in trees on either side of the path, so it's not completely dark thankfully, but I still walk extra slow. If I fall and break my ankle, I'm up shit creek without a paddle.

The pond comes into view, the moonlight reflecting on the water. I look around, finding the big tree just off the path. I step off the dirt onto the grass, carefully trenching on tiptoes so my heels don't sink in. I can't see anything in front of the tree, so I go to walk around it when a body comes out from behind.

"Fucking hell," I grumble, jumping as I halt in my steps.

I watch as the person moves closer, my heart racing as I wonder if my present is a person, or if I'm about to get murdered and chucked in the pond.

Moonlight crosses their face and my mouth drops in shock.

"Asher?!"

Standing there in a tux, hands in his pockets, is Asher fucking Taylor.

"Hi, Rylee," he murmurs, giving me a smile. "You look absolutely beautiful."

"What the fuck are you doing here?" I all but yell, taking a step back.

Asher glances up towards the top of the hill, where the faint sounds of music are playing. "Phoebe invited me."

"Why?" I ask, my voice breaking. I'm in disbelief that she would do such a thing, and confused as hell.

He shrugs. "I contacted her."

Anger floods through me at his confession. "You called her? Before her wedding when she's dealing with so much? What is wrong with you?"

Asher gives me a guilty smile. "I needed to see you."

I gape at him. "You needed to see me? I thought I made it quite clear that I didn't want anything to do with you."

"I know. But I just need to talk to you, and I knew you wouldn't answer if I called."

Well he's not wrong.

I look towards the pond and contemplate if I'm quick and strong enough to push him in. Asher reads my thoughts, taking a few steps away from the water.

"I haven't been truthful with you," he says, watching me with guarded grey eyes.

"At least that's the truth for once," I snap.

Asher steps towards me, stopping when I automatically take a step back. "Jenny's blackmailing me."

"What?" I ask before I can stop myself.

"I know you saw us at the coffee shop. Phoebe told me."

I'm going to strangle her. Not today, since it's her wedding day. But soon – I'm pencilling it in.

"So what?" I say bluntly. "You're entitled to have coffee with your girlfriend."
