What now, I can’t help but wonder.

I haven’t been around kids since I was one.

He belches and wipes at his mouth again.

“Jukebox?” he asks, making me wince.

“You just ate. You’ll need to wait a while before you can dance.”

He pulls a face. “You don’t have a TV.”

I smile. “Come with me. I’ll show you where the TV is.”

Chapter Eighty-Six

Cheryl

Iwakeuptofind Everett gone from the bed, and Noah at my other side, lying on his back and snoring softly in his sleep. He must have come to bed after I fell asleep. I sit up slowly and check the time. It’s just after eight in the morning. Early, but not super early.

I actually feel rested, and that makes me wonder if my magic might be accessible now. I feel the connection to it, but my fingers don’t tingle when I try to call it forth to be used. Damn. I think it still needs replenished, and the fastest way to do that is to go out back and touch the ground.

I start to get out of bed, and a hand reaches out, fingers brushing my arm.

“Hey,” Noah murmurs. “Where are you running off to?”

“I’m going to check something. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

He puts his hand back under his pillow. I slip out of bed and grab yesterday’s dress from the floor. I take my cell phone and keys from the pockets, then haul on a pair of jeans before I leave the room.

Rachel stayed over, and Georgia’s kid is around. I probably shouldn’t be wandering around in a shirt and panties like I usually do.

I stagger down the stairs, my body still kind of weary despite feeling more mentally alert. I could be wrong, but I think it’s linked to my witch side and needing to replenish my magic. I guess I’ll find out in a few minutes.

I glance into the lounge as I pass, but it’s empty. I soon find out Everett isn’t hanging around in the kitchen, either. I suppose he could be using the gym. Sometimes he works out before class, usually when he’s a bit worked up about something. I’ve never seen him as angry as he’s been these last few days, so it would make sense if he was trying to burn some of that off.

I go out into the backyard, deciding to visit him after I’ve checked on my magic.

I know the instant I touch the grass that this is it. The relief I feel when my fingers start to tingle has me promising myself that I’ll never let this happen again. It was reckless, even if it did seem necessary at the time. I get back to my feet and brush off my hands.

I turn my palm up and concentrate on a simple fire spell.

A flickering flame rises from the magic at the tip of my fingers. I part them and it separates. I shake my hand and the flames go out. I let out a soft sigh.

I’ve got my magic back. Now, I need to get my Omega back.

I step into the house and find Vi in the hallway, arms wrapped around herself as if she’s cold.

She’s still in the soft pink sweater and long grey skirt we put her to bed in, and her vibrant red hair is full of static. Her eyes go wide when she locks them on me.

“Cheryl! I need to speak to you.”

“Vi, are you okay?” I ask, closing the back door and locking it without looking.

She nods. “I… It’s going to sound crazy.”
