Rachel nods. Her quiet friend Amanda doesn’t say anything. I can see the awe in her eyes over Rachel’s abilities. She was a bit like Cheryl before, I think. Couldn’t do much with her magic, until they became coven sisters and gained the ability to draw magic from the earth.

“You probably shouldn’t keep her waiting,” Rachel says. “She might decide to leave. She took this case because she had time to fit it in. We’ll just have to do this without checking things ourselves first.”

Cheryl sighs and opens the door.

The witch is still there, looking irritable.

“We just need a few minutes,” Cheryl says. “We’ll be out when Oscar’s ready.”

The witch nods and my mate shuts the door again.

“Can you get Everett and Oscar?” she asks me.

Fuck. This is it then. I nod. “I’ll get them.”

Chapter Forty-Seven

Everett

Shouldn’thavebotheredgoingto bed last night. I don’t feel rested, and the more the doorbell rings, the more I want to charge down the stairs and punch out the asshole who keeps making it ring.

The long shower I’d wanted to help wake me up isn’t a possibility anymore.

I cut it short, my irritation growing as I towel off and shove on clothes.

If this pack is looking for a fight, they picked a good day for it.

I’m in the mood to break bones and spill blood.

I had to ignore my mate’s heat this morning after being woken at the crack of dawn. That’s completely unacceptable. These conditions make murderous rage justifiable.

Especially when there’s an Alpha from an out-of-town pack intruding on my territory and accusing my Omega of killing one of his wolves. His pack knew what they were doing out there in on our property. They spoke like this was what they were waiting for. Their big chance.

I seriously need to calm the fuck down.

We agreed to this meeting. We need to see it through.

If I get violent, it’ll be seen as an unprovoked attack. The witch is a witness. I won’t get away with anything that isn’t covered by pack law. I need to control the impulse to hurt the bastards.

I swear as I leave the bathroom.

Oscar steps out into the hall at the same time I do, and the same moment Noah reaches the landing from the stairs. We look at each other, and Noah gives us a grim look.

“They’re here, and the witch doesn’t have time to wait around. Are you ready?”

“As I’ll ever be,” Oscar says, shrugging.

I detect the tiniest tremor in his voice, and my rage re-activates.

“I need a fucking minute,” I tell Noah, stepping back into the room.

I slam the door, needing to take some anger out on something.

I can’t deal with this. It’s too fucking much.

They should do it without me.

I’ll only make things worse.
