I slip into the bathroom and close the door. I wait by the door. They don’t move away.

I guess I’m about to find out if I have a shy bladder, then.

My muscles ache as I move the couple of steps toward the toilet.

I take care of my call of nature, letting my panties drop to the floor and stepping out of them entirely when I get back up again. I dump them in the hamper, and I wash my hands at the sink before I use the water to start replenishing my magic.

It’s kind of hard to concentrate while my head’s thumping as if I’ve been at a live music gig or something. Eventually, my fingertips start to tingle with the magic they’re drinking in from the running water. I feel a little steadier after a few minutes. My headache starts to dial down.

Letting out a relieved sigh, I turn the water off.

I can go out into the backyard in a bit and finish replenishing my magic in the grass, but right now my mouth is dry and my body’s a little weak. I need to drink something and sit down for a while before I attempt to finish restoring myself to full strength.

A shower’s going to have to wait until then, too.

I splash water on my face to feel fresher. Once I’ve dried my face, I step out of the room.

Not only are two of my mates waiting right there, the third one has joined them.

All of them are watching me carefully, as if they’re afraid I might break apart.

“Who’s making breakfast?” I ask with a smile. “And who’s carrying me down the stairs?”

Silas’ lips twitch. “I’ll cook.”

Adrian lifts me back up. “I’ll carry.”

“And I’ll sit next to you,” Carter adds quickly.

Goddess, it feels good to be home.

Carter takes my free hand in his and rests his head against my shoulder while Silas moves around the kitchen, prepping a big breakfast like he usually does on a Sunday afternoon, cooking up a storm while the rest of us let our wolves run around in the woods out back.

Adrian helps Silas, getting out plates and silverware.

“It feels like you were gone for weeks,” Carter tells me.

“It was only a few days,” I say, kind of not believing it now that I’m saying it out loud.

So much happened in the time I was gone. My best friend’s bond with her Omega was broken. She had to let him go with another pack. Getting him back took a lengthy wait and some creative uses of magic once we found out what the Alpha of that pack was doing. Cheryl went to hell and back, and I’m glad I was at her side.

“Oscar’s bond was broken?” Carter asks, his eyes widening.

I hadn’t planned on spilling the details, but I should have known my mind-reading Omega would pick up some of the more upsetting bits from my thoughts.

“For a whole day,” I admit. “It was awful, but we got him back.”

“I didn’t think that was even possible,” Carter murmurs. “Mating bonds and pack bonds are supposed to be for life. I’ve never heard of them being broken.”

That’s exactly why I didn’t want to tell him. I didn’t consider it as something that could happen, either, until it did. Worse, Cheryl did everything she could to keep it from happening and it wasn’t enough. I’d do anything to protect my pack, but blind determination doesn’t mean much when The Fates are involved.

“A witch broke their bond,” I add, trying to find the words to make it better. “A really powerful witch working for the Council of Witches. It’s not a common spell. It’s not ethical, so it’s not taught in covens. Besides, I know how to take care of witches who try to attack us. We don’t need to worry about our bond being broken.”
