I’m powerless to stop them. I couldn’t stop what I saw happening to Rachel the first time. I was never meant to stop it. I was only meant to be there after to make sure she survived. That was all that mattered that night.

The weird, twisted memory of that dream doesn’t make any sense.

It already happened. We worked our way past it.

Why the hell am I dreaming about that night all over again?

The question keeps me awake. That, and the growing ball of dread in my stomach.

The dream was more than a dream, and I wish I understood what that meant.

Chapter Six

Rachel

Mythumpingheadacheisthe first thing my brain registers when I wake up, closely followed by the familiar warmth of my clingiest mate. Carter’s arm is around my middle, his forearm positioned upward between my breasts with his hand resting on my collar. His right leg is over my left leg, too, which is going to make it pretty much impossible to move until he does.

I let out a soft sigh. It would be cute if I didn’t need to use the bathroom.

Opening my eyes, I see Adrian in front of me, rubbing his eyes and groaning.

“A little help, maybe?” I ask, raising an eyebrow at my Alpha.

He looks at me and snorts. “He’s awake.”

“Shhhh!” Carter murmurs close to my ear. “You’ll wake Rachel.”

Adrian rolls his eyes. “She’s awake. Let her go.”

“Fine,” Carter mutters. “Spoil our fun.”

He lets me go, moving out of the bed where he must have been sleeping pretty much on the edge of the mattress behind me. I haul myself up and out of the bed.

The room spins a bit when I get up, I can’t lie. I need to start replenishing my magic A.S.A.P.

Carter takes my hands in his. “Better?”

His eyes fix on mine in concern, and it takes me a second to realize they look slightly different because he’s not wearing guy-liner. Of course, he’s not. He takes it off before bed.

I’m kind of glad, truth be told. He has a sexy, slightly raspy voice, a slender, nicely toned body and a stare that can melt my panties right off. He looks extra hot when his eyes are lined, and he damn well knows it. He gives me a lop-sided smile and I know he’s pleased that I’m thinking about how good he looks.

“Thanks,” I tell him, feeling a little bit steadier.

“How are you feeling?” he asks.

Kind of like I’ve been hit by a train, but I’m not willing to admit it.

Guess I just kind of did, at least to Carter. I shrug and the motion makes me wince.

“Walk me to the bathroom?” I ask, not sure I’m steady enough to make it across the hall on my own.

“I’ll carry you,” Adrian says, moving across the bed and lifting me into his arms before I can protest.

Carter steps out of the way, following us when we leave the room.

“Thanks,” I murmur when Adrian stops at the bathroom door and sets me down on unsteady legs.

I look at him, and then at Carter. “You two can wait for me in the bedroom. I’ll be fine in a few seconds.”
