Anger rises in me. This bitch better be ready to pay for what she’s done.

“Silas Victor Crane,” she says, her gaze settling on my Beta as a nasty smile appears on her thin lips.

“I promised the Dark Lord the soul of a medium. Make a choice. You, or him.”

I glance at Cheryl, and she gives the bitch side-eye.

“We’re not doing this your way,” I tell her, taking charge before Silas can respond.

Silas and Adrian help Samuel to his feet and lead him away from her.

Paul’s fiancé turns her gaze to the door to hell.

“It doesn’t matter,” she says. “He’s coming to collect. He’ll take all your souls. Dead or alive, it makes no difference. I got him what he wanted, and a little more besides. I could have let a few of you go, but I can see that’s not an option now.”

“What a damn shame,” I tell her.

“You really don’t care about anything, do you?” she asks.

“I’m not the one who’s trying to send a bunch of innocents to hell.”

“Playing the hero card, are we? Where did you hide that when you were fucking around with my man? You led him astray and you murdered him. You’re not innocent, and the wolves you’re with now aren’t innocent either. All of you brought this on yourselves.”

“I didn’t say I was a hero. Paul decided to kill me when I broke up with him after I realized our age gap was creepy and I didn’t want to fuck him, by the way. You might want to get your facts straight, before you end up in the same situation all over again with another underage schoolgirl ‘fucking around’ with your man.”

Infuriated, she strides forward as if she’s ready to physically attack me.

I partially shift my hands, bringing out my claws in preparation.

This bitch is trying kill me and my mates and my friends.

There’s no way I’m letting her leave this room alive.

She stops short of laying hands on me.

I can taste her anger on the air. She’s furious with me. Furious with Paul, too, but I doubt she knows that. I feel a little sorry for her. She was an innocent. Until she decided to make a deal with the Dark Lord to free her sad excuse for a fiancé from hell’s clutches.

“What exactly are you going to accomplish by freeing Paul’s soul? He’ll be a spirit. He can’t be with you in that state. He’ll be trapped between planes for eternity, because the only place he can move onto is hell.”

She reaches out to slap me and I grab her wrist, digging my nails into her skin.

Grimacing, she stares me down. Then she yanks her arm back and roars, “Attack!”

The air in the room changes. She issued that command to the spirits, who are in spirit form.

I join hands with my coven sisters and create a forcefield of energy in front of us. I’m ninety percent sure it’ll work. And the other ten percent sure we can adjust it if it doesn’t.

The spirits smack into it like birds hitting a pane of glass.

It holds, be they’re weakening it with their hits.

We work on strengthening it, keeping them from breaking through.

They keep hitting it. There are too many of them. It’s not going to hold forever.

We need a new plan.

The necromancer smirks at us. She knows we’re screwed if we don’t change our tactic.
