“Thank you, my good bacon-maker.” He salutes me before he sits down, swiping the seat next to Rachel, as per usual.

My stomach rumbles when I hear them starting to eat. Waiting for my bacon to cook seems to take forever, and then I somehow instantly burn it to a crisp.

I sigh as I sit down with my over-crisp bacon.

Rachel looks over and puts some of hers on my plate. “I’m almost full.”

“Me too,” Carter says, as he scoops the last couple of strips of his on top.

“Now it’s starting to feel like Christmas,” I tell them.

Chapter Thirty-Six

Carter

Racheleatsonefinalslice of toast before she’s done with breakfast. She barely touched her bacon, but she doesn’t usually eat that much when she’s just out of bed. Adrian went a bit overboard, as expected, which worked out well for him when he overcooked his own. Now my feet are itching to give Rachel her present, and I’m also super curious as to what she’s got for me.

She was tight-lipped about what she was going to get for Adrian and Silas, and I didn’t catch her thinking about it randomly, so she’s been pretty careful to keep it a surprise.

“Present time?” I ask, raising an eyebrow at her.

“Don’t you need to shower?” she asks.

“I’ll shower after.” I’ll need to, anyway.

“Okay, then,” she says, getting up. “I’ll clear the dishes, and …”

“I’ve got the dishes covered,” Adrian says. “I’ll wait down here for Silas getting up. You two go have fun.”

“Awesome.” It’s like a genie’s granting my every wish this morning.

If only every Christmas felt like this. One look at Rachel and I know this is what they’re going to be like from now on.

I take her hand and we head up the stairs. She lets go when we get to the landing.

“I’ll just grab your present from my room.”

“I’ll get set up for yours.”

We part ways and I get out my supplies. I have a few jewel-toned hair-dyes I’ve been playing with on a wig made of real hair that’s the same colour as Rachel’s. She’s always wanted to try mermaid hair, and I’m ready to give her any colour combo she wants.

She comes into the room with a black gift bag in her hands that she passes to me.

“Okay, so, I have to explain this present,” she tells me.

“I’m listening,” I tell her, peeking into the bag.

There’s a USB on top of a book that looks like one of my favorite paranormal reads. Yeah, this definitely looks like it needs an explanation. I look back up at her.

“I know you love the Daylight Vampire trilogy, so I recorded myself reading it out loud,” she starts.

“Wait, wait, wait,” I say, shocked. “Youreadthe Daylight Vampire trilogy?”

She nods. “Every last word. I had no idea one author could cram so much sex into three books, by the way.”

I grin at her. “I can’t believe you did that for me.”

“Oh, there’s more, and it might even shock you.”
