She smiles and spins back to face us. “Well, Iloveit. I’ll be keeping this hair for a while, so get used to it.”

“It’s pretty,” I admit, knowing she’d look good in any color.

The makeup is a little over the top for me, but she pulls it off.

“You should go to a Cosmetology college, or whatever they call it,” I tell Carter.

He starts hummingBeauty School Drop OutfromGrease.

I roll my eyes. It’s obvious he likes this shit, but there’s no way in hell he’ll ever do something with it.

“Definitely,” Rachel agrees, ignoring his pessimistic humming. Maybe she hasn’t seen that movie. Someone, somewhere, probably hasn’t seen it. “I’ll be your model. We can make a portfolio.”

He shrugs. “Maybe. Sometime. You still need to pick what you want me to do with my hair.”

“I want it the same color as mine,” she says. “Like always.”

He grins. “That, I can do.”

“You’ll look like twins,” I warn them.

Carter snorts. “Jealous, much?”

“We’ll look cute,” Rachel tells me.

“You already look cute, Tink.” I shoot her a wink as Carter growls lightly.

“I only answer to Rachel,” she says, turning away from me.

“Or Queen of the Sea,” Carter adds.

“O-kay. I’ll leave you two creative types alone to finish this up. I’ll be downstairs starting Christmas dinner if you need me.”

“See you later, Silas,” Rachel says as I leave.

“We won’t need you,” Carter calls after me.

“Carter!” Rachel exclaims.

“It’s fine, he knows I’m kidding.”

I do know he’s kidding, but I smile at my mate’s defence of me as I head for the stairs.

This Christmas has gotten off to a crazy start so far and I can tell there’s going to be more to come.

Chapter Thirty-Eight

Silascomesintothekitchen while I’m studying the old yearbook at the table. It’s been a couple of hours since Rachel and Carter went upstairs, and I ran out of household chores a while ago.

I glance up and I catch him sucking in a breath as he stares at the book.

Closing it, I decide to get straight to the point. “What happened with Sara?”

He stays where he is near the door, and I give him a minute to pull himself together and answer.

I watch as he closes his eyes and curses under his breath. I can feel his wolf pulling to the surface while he struggles to contain his emotions.
