He sighs and puts his head on the table. “Give me coffee. I’m willing to try anything.”

“I’ll make you a latte,” I tell him. “You’ll like it better.”

“Is breakfast ready yet?” he asks.

“It’ll take a few minutes.”

He moans in complaint, apparently too tired now for words. I make his drink and finish cooking the batch of sausages. I put a second batch on to fry after I split the current load between two plates.

“No fancy scrambled eggs on the side?” Carter asks as I put it down in front of him. “Or mushrooms?”

“I’m not Silas. You can have toast. When it pops in a minute.”

He grumbles something under his breath.

I put the latte down. “This will make up for it.”

He takes a tentative sip and puts it down. “Pass the sugar, please.”

“That’s already …”

“Pass the sugar, please.”

Why do I always forget he’s got the sweetest tooth of anyone I’ve ever met?

I put the sugar in front of him with a teaspoon and he quickly lumps in a few scoops before he takes another sip. This time he seems to approve.

“Okay. That’s halfway decent.”

“Only halfway?” I shake my head as I grab the toast from the toaster and drop it onto his plate.

“Now, that looks more like breakfast.”

I pass him the butter before he starts asking for that.

Then, I pick up my fork and knife and chop the sausages on my plate into slices so I can eat a bite at a time while I cook the rest.

“You’ll need to drive today,” Carter tells me. “Silas will only be a liability.”

He’s probably right. If those two really did stay up all night, they might be buzzed for a while, but they’ll be wiped out in a while. Only problem is it’s a long drive, and my car is ancient.

“Well, Silas will just have to trust me with the other love of his life.”

“What’s that about trusting you?” Silas asks as he steps into the room.

He’s dressed, and he seems perkier than usual. It would seem that staying up all night with our mate was good for him. Can’t say I’m not a little envious, but at least I eventually got to sleep. It’s Carter I really feel sorry for. There’s no off switch for his Omega sensitivities. Hearing Rachel with one of us is always going to affect him.

“I’ll be driving today,” I tell him. “Your car. Mine won’t make it to Midnight Valley and back without breaking down.”

He nods. “I figured the same thing.”

He takes his keys out of his pocket and places them on the table.

“Holy shit,” Carter murmurs. “You’re letting someone else drive your car?”

“It’s just a car,” Silas says.

“Then, can I take lessons in it?” Carter asks.
