I felt protective of Amanda before I was her coven leader, and now that feeling has doubled.

I should be checking in with her more about her progress, teaching her what I can like I started to before school broke up for the winter break. I’ll redouble my efforts when I’m back. We’ll be in class again before another week passes.

Dante walks to the other side of the apartment when he starts to talk, keeping out of earshot.

“Where are Sean and Parker?” I ask.

“Oh, a local broke down on his way home from visiting family out of town. They had to both go to bring him back and tow the car. They might be gone for an hour or two.”

I thought the garage was closed for the break, but I know even if they were, Sean would never refuse to help anyone who needed it. He’s a real sweetheart. He’s the perfect Alpha for Amanda.

Dante moves back over to us, pocketing his phone. “Kelly’s in the middle of something important, but she can help later. I’ll teleport her here when she’s free, and I’ll bring her to you then. Do you know where you’ll be?”

“Midnight Valley,” I tell him. “I can give you the address.”

“Isn’t that where you’re from?” he asks, frowning.

“Yeah, it is.” I tell him as I take a pad and pen from my purse.

“And you don’t know any necromancers who live there?” he asks, sounding dubious.

“There weren’t any in my high school,” I tell him, shrugging. “It’s one of the rarer sub-types.”

I write down the address we’re going to and pass it to him. He takes it, barely glancing at it before he slips the piece of paper into his pocket.

“Right.” He doesn’t sound too impressed. “Well, Kelly and I will see you in Midnight Valley later on.”

He’s clearly telling me to leave. Amanda’s about to chide him again, I can see it in her expression.

“I should really get moving. We have a long drive ahead.” I make it sound like I need to get going, to make it less awkward.

As much as I know Dante’s good for my friend, I haven’t warmed to him as much as I have Sean and Parker. He really doesn’t seem to like people, with the exception of Amanda, of course.

I make a vow to get to know him a little better.

There must be something soft under that hard shell.

“Well, drive safe and give my love to your mates,” Amanda says.

“Her love belongs to me, so don’t bother with that second part,” Dante says.

I honestly can’t tell if he’s joking.

I say my goodbyes and get moving.

My mates are waiting for me, and we really do have a long drive ahead of us.

Hopefully, by the time the New Year is ringing in, we’ll have found Silas’ missing sister and father, and the mistake I made by not telling the Council of Witches about Paul will be undone.

Chapter Fifty-Three

Silas

IfeellikeallI’ve been doing for the past week is standing still, waiting for a chance to move. Now that I’m so close to dashing toward the goal, I’m terrified of what I’m going to find when I get there.

It didn’t take long to confirm my father still wasn’t home. I can’t help wondering what kind of haunted house would take this long for him to investigate. The friendly spirit in his yard didn’t seem too concerned, so maybe this is normal. I wouldn’t know.

Rachel’s not back yet when I get home, so I head out to the backyard.
