I nod my head, my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth. Christian moves closer to me, his warm hand soothing on my back. I smile up at him.

“I’m alright. I need this.”

My shoulder shifts and David’s eyes fall on the glowing ruby at my throat. “She gave you the Dragon’s Eye?”

“Yes.” I touch it lightly.

Christian grumbles, “How did you get the Dragon’s Eye?”

His lips quirk and the resemblance to my father is eerie and yet somehow makes me feel safe.

“How else? A woman. One of your ancestors was a young woman named Elsinore. She was a dragon shifter. She fell in love with an ancestor of mine and gave him the necklace so that she could make sure that she was with him at all times. They married.”

“So I have dragon shifter blood?” I ask, shocked, my fingers on my lips.

He nods. “Just a little. I think that’s where you get your gift.”

“Gift or curse,” I mutter.

“It can be both. But psychic empaths always have an anchor that keeps their life under control.” He nods to Christian. “Your mate is yours. That’s why Fate chose him for you.”

Both of us nod and then David looks to the horizon and a soft smile tugs at his lips. “Gertrude?”

My eyes widen as I see the glow and a young woman with the softened, immature features of my grandmother steps forward.

“My love?” she calls and her slim hand reaches for him. He moves towards her and then glances back at me. Be happy, child. Don’t ever forsake love and it will never forsake you.”

The two of them move towards each other like magnets drawn together. When they touch it’s like a blazing fire consumes them and with their arms around each other, they disappear.

“I can’t believe it. She came back for him.”

Christian nods. “Love is eternal. It will always find a way.”

Then he smiles. “You want to ride your dragon?”

“I do. But it’s the middle of the day.”

“Most people don’t look up anyway. And the ones that do are usually drunk. This is New Orleans.”

I laugh and let him lead me to an open field alongside the cemetery and shift swiftly. Then I climb onto the broad, scaled back of my anchor and let him fly me away, my heart finally full and light.

I have my family and my love all in one. Nothing could be better.

“We have to go see my brother sometime soon. I feel like something is happening and he needs my help.”

I nod and lean down to hug the strong, rough column of my dragon’s throat.

“Wherever you go, I go. Forever and more.”
