“Wh-what are you?”

“A dragon shifter.Yourdragon shifter.”

Her white-blond hair flies around her head when she shakes it violently. “There’s no such thing.”

“You saw me. You know what I am. Stop denying me, little mate.”

“Dragons don’t exist. Or at least only in fairytales.”

I huff out a laugh and a frosty mist dances in front of my mouth. That mist dissipates and then reappears.

She scuttles back on the bed. “How did you do that?”

“I told you, mate. Dragon shifter. In particular an ice dragon.”

“Is that why it’s so damn cold tonight? I didn’t think the south got cold even in the winter.”

“Occasionally. But yes, my emotions were messed up and it made the atmosphere unstable.”

“Because of me?” she squeaks.

“Yes, but now that I found you, it’s all good. The weather will go back to normal and my emotions will straighten out.”

“I didn’t realize dragons were so emotional.”

“I was angry. I asked you over and over to find me. Come to me. The necklace would have led you to me.”

“I’m busy.” She stops and her eyes widen, the topaz flashing. “Wait, what do you mean you told me to come to you?”

“In your dreams. I could practically touch you and it made me angry that you wouldn’t listen.”

“I’m a stubborn woman. I don’t let just any dragon tell me what to do, buster,” she growls, the sound more like a kitten than a tiger.

I chuckle. “I hope you don’t think I’m going to be afraid of that little meow, my mate.”

Taking a deep breath, she huffs in annoyance. “I honestly don’t care. But you do need to take me back.”

“I can’t do that. You’re my mate. You belong with me. Just as I belong with you. Our hearts and souls will be entwined for the rest of our very long days.”

“Long days? What does that mean? Are all dragons so cryptic?” Her pale cheeks flush and she glares golden fire at me.

She’s more beautiful than any woman I’ve ever seen. I’m one lucky damn dragon. The fates knew what they were doing when they meshed our futures together.

I stalk closer to the bed and smile grimly when she backs away until she’s pushed into the huge wooden headboard. “You don’t need to be nervous about me, mate. My sole goal in life is to protect you, care for you and make you happy. I would never hurt you.”

“That’s easy for you to say but you kidnapped me from a cemetery.” She rubs at her shoulder and I lean closer and then pull the shoulder of her shirt down, grimacing when I see the faint claw marks and bruises on her shoulders.

“I’m sorry. I was a little rough but normally a mate would ride her dragon. You didn’t want to come with me so I had to carry you. In the future it will be much easier when you ride.”

“You want me torideyour dragon?” Her mouth falls open and she colors vividly. I know what she’s thinking. Can practically hear it in her head. It sounds dirty and my dragon chuffs happily inside me.

“He absolutely wants you to.” I move closer to her, my hand stretching out to touch the pale ice of her hair. It’s like a glistening fall of ice and there’s nothing guaranteed to get an ice dragon’s attention quicker than ice and snow. When I touch it, she doesn’t move away. Her pupils dilate until almost all of her amber irises are swallowed by the darkness.

Her breath quickens and my dragon growls inside my chest, letting a rumble like a very strong purr pour out of my chest. Pacing ever closer to her curvy little body, I watch her bountiful chest rise and fall faster and faster until she’s practically panting.

She may not want the attraction but it’s there.

I place a knee on the mattress and crawl over to her, my body growing taut with need. Crawling over top of her, I smile when she leans back into the pillows.
