“I am very pleased that fate gave me such a beautiful mate. Smart, sensitive and fiery. Stubborn and yet soft. So many contradictions but they all blend into the most fascinating woman I’ve ever met. I could get lost in the amber hue of your eyes.” My eyes drift down her body and a snarl leaves my lips, making her jump slightly. “Could spend the next hundred years learning every little nook and cranny of this body until I could draw your curves in my mind.”

“Y-you don’t mean that.”

I shake my head. “That’s where you’re wrong, princess. I mean exactly that. I want to own these curves. Learn them so that I can picture you when my eyes are closed. I want every damned little piece of you. Because you belong to me just as I belong to you.”

My head moves closer to her and I take my time with my skittish mate, hoping that she doesn’t draw back.

Instead, her head reaches up until she can touch my mouth with her own. Her soft lips cling to mine lightly and I growl praise under my breath.

“Tell me that you want me, little mate. Tell me that you need me as much as I need you.” My body is hard, my dick throbbing and I’m so close to just ripping into her like she’s my favorite candy that I’m shaking, barely able to control the hunger gnawing at my belly.

Fuck, do I have a sweet tooth. There’s nothing as sweet as my mate’s smile. My mate’s desire scenting the air.

“I need you,” she whispers in a broken voice, tears shimmering in her eyes.

“Why do you cry then?” Anger and pain twist my insides into a knot, dulling the pleasure of her touch and smile.

“I want you. But I don’t know you. I don’t know if this is going to last.”

“Mates are forever. There is nothing more than important to me than you,” I insist.

“Then what happens if I don’t want to stay here? What happens if I need to leave?”

“Then I go with you. I don’t need to work so I can move anywhere I want to. And that will always be with you.”

“How come you don’t need to work?” Her amber eyes flash with curiosity.

“My dragon family has been able to support themselves and the next generation for centuries. And I played the stock market and built the fortune up even further.”

“I see.” A quick flare of nervousness builds in her eyes before she drops them to the bed.

“What are you nervous about?”

“Why would you pick me?”

“I did not. Fate did. You can’t fight fate so even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t. You’re all I’ve thought about for my whole life. When I felt this strange prickling of awareness a few days ago, I knew you were close.”

My mouth drifts down while I’m talking and I nibble and kiss down her slender throat, my teeth pushing against my gums. The hunger to bite her, leave my mark on her delicate skin is overwhelming now that she’s under me.

“You haven’t even told me your name,” she protests mildly, her voice so soft that I can barely hear her.

“Christian LaRoche. I have three brothers and we’re elemental dragons. I’m ice. One of my brothers is fire, one earth and one air.”

“That’s nice. Christian?”

“Yes?” I whisper into her skin. She’s warm and enticing. The scent of her is my new favorite smell.

“You promise me that you’ll never leave me? That we’re meant to be.”

“I promise with every breath in my body, I will love and care for you until my time on this earth is done.”

My head lifts. “I should have told you. When we become mated and you wear my mark, you become like me.”

“I become a dragon?” she squawks.

“No. But you age much slower. But there is another side to it and that is that when I die, you’ll die as well.”

Fear breaks in her eyes. “I will die when you do.”
