“Thank you for that,” I said down to him, running the tip of a finger along his jaw. “I hate that she was nervous, and there was nothing I could do about it.” Shade’s large hand wrapped around my wrist and tugged. A squeak of surprise escaped as I tumbled forward, only to be caught in his arms and manhandled until I sat across his wide lap. With a sigh, I relaxed against him, allowing my head to rest against his shoulder. The scruff along his jaw scraped against my cheek and his heavy arms wrapped around me.

“You’re welcome. And Trap will still be a while,” he said, lips against my ear. I shivered and shifted, my ass grinding against his hardening cock. My core heated and throbbed with the sudden need to be filled. He grasped my hips, halting the movement. “Why don’t you go see him at the station?”

“What?” My voice came out breathless from the spike in need his closeness and touch invoked. “Why? Is he okay?”

“He had a long day and will be a few hours yet filling out reports on an incident that happened in town.” My brows dipped, and I shifted, his grip loosening enough for me to sit up to see his face. “Go see him and take him something to eat. I don’t think he’s had anything.”

I smiled while slowly shaking my head. “What is it with you and feeding people?”

Reaching up, he stroked a finger along my cheek before dipping to trace my lips. “I enjoy taking care of my people. It makes me feel needed.” His jaw worked back and forth, signaling he had more to add. I’d grown to appreciate this aspect of him. His words weren’t many, but they were always thought through and important. “My mom is a mess.” The words weren’t flattering, but his small smile and soft voice told me he meant it in a good way. “And Dad is obsessed with her. I grew up watching him do whatever he could to take care of her. She was always so busy pouring her energy into me and my brothers that she forgot about herself most of the time.” His dark eyes locked on me. “Like someone else I know.” I faked shock and leaned back out of his reach. “I loved seeing Dad take care of Mom, so now I enjoy taking care of those I care about too. Jessa said it was my love language.”

I stiffened at hearing her name.

They brought her up casually now and then, and every time it took me by surprise. Not that I was jealous or mad, just taken off guard. It was clear they loved her and missed her. The way their tones shifted and small smiles crept up their lips made me… sad.

Sad because that look and that tone had never and would never be how Barrett talked about me. I missed my chance at finding someone capable of that devotion, wasted it on that bastard.

Shade leaned forward, resting his forehead on my shoulder, and I automatically reached up and began running my fingers through his hair.

“You should go,” he said, voice thick. “I know it would make Trap’s day to see you.”

Damn this selfless man. The way he held me tight went against his words, which meant he really didn’t want me to leave but would let me go to make his friend happy.

Initially when they brought up “sharing,” I didn’t understand how it worked or why. Now, after seeing them interact, being a part of their circle, everything I’d witnessed the past several weeks made sense. They balanced each other out, and oddly that just worked for them.

“What about Gracie?” I asked, standing.

His hands loosened but didn’t drop, holding me steady as I stood between his thighs.

“I’ll stay here, finish the dishes. Just….” He swallowed hard, gaze darting to the side. “Come back safe, okay?”

Hands on his shoulders, I leaned down and brushed my lips against his. Releasing my hip, his hand engulfed the back of my head, pushing me closer until our lips sealed together. A rumbling groan filled the kitchen as he shifted to deepen the kiss. Too wrapped up in the moment, I didn’t even think as I maneuvered my legs around his to straddle his lap.

Shade pressed against my lower back, sealing our lower halves together. I sucked on his tongue, making his hips thrust off the chair, rubbing his hard cock against my now-throbbing core. Heat built beneath my veins, and my breaths quickened. Pulling back, gasping for air, I gripped the back of the wooden chair, using it for leverage as I ground myself against him.

A hand snaked into my hair and gripped a fistful at the base, holding me still.

“You’ll be the death of me, baby. Now you better go before I fuck you on the table, not giving two shits if Gracie walks in catching us.”

I nodded in agreement but didn’t move. My pussy throbbed, my breasts heavy and desperate for his rough touch.

A knowing smirk curved Shade’s lips. “Going over there with a greedy pussy will only make his day that much better, baby.” Gripping my hips, he lifted me off his lap and stood, keeping his hold until I was steady on my feet. “You know where you’re going?” I nodded and swallowed down my whimper at the loss of his body against mine. “Here.” He reached into the front of his jeans and placed a set of keys in my hand. “Take my truck. I don’t like you driving that piece of shit the marshal gave you.”

Gripping my shoulders, he twirled me around and held tight as he marched me toward the front door. Taking the keys once more, he double-clicked a button and then handed them back to me.

“There, now the engine is getting warm for you. I’ll call in an order to the diner and put it under your name. Just stop by and pick it up before you head to the station.”

“Okay,” I said, the excitement of seeing Trap and their office overriding my annoyance at having to leave wet and frustrated.

“Text me when you get there,” he said, “and then when you’re leaving.”

Turning, I wrapped my arms around his waist, similar to how Gracie did earlier, and squeezed. “I’ll be fine. Be back in a little while. Text me if something happens with Gracie.”

At that, I stepped through the door he opened for me and hurried across the lawn to his truck that was, in fact, already running. Hopping into the massive vehicle, I rubbed my hands together, searching the dash for the seat heater button though my body was still liquid fire from earlier.

With zero traffic, ever, and the short distance between our houses and town, it didn’t take long before I was parking in front of the diner. Inside, like Shade promised, was a large food order waiting for me, already paid for as well.

Still smiling to myself, I started down the sidewalk instead of hopping back into the truck to drive the short distance to the end of the row of businesses where I knew their station was located. The wind gusted, cutting through my jeans and light jacket. It was crazy how it could be pleasant during the day but felt nearly arctic at night because of the harsh wind.
