At that moment, Evie lets out a loud burp and we watch with bated breath before the baby settles to sleep peacefully in my arms once more.
“Thank God,” I breathe. “I don’t know what I’d do if she started screaming again. I’m totally worn out, Rick, and we’re going to need find a babysitter stat. I can’t take care of a newborn and a six year old by myself, especially if I’m going to be pregnant again.”
My boyfriend nods, growling with pleasure.
“Of course, sweetheart, and I don’t expect you to either. I’ve been thinking the same thing because three kids is too much for anyone to handle on their own. How about asking that teenage girl down the street if she babysits? Piper, I think her name is?”
I pause for a moment, my nose scrunching.
“Really?”
My boyfriend nods his dark head.
“Why? I think she’s old enough. Eighteen, nineteen, maybe?”
I nod.
“Yes, it’s just that her family situation is a little strange. I hear she lives in that huge house with just her stepdad, and … well, this is going to sound super scandalous, but I hear they’re actually lovers.”
That makes Rick go stock still.
“Are you fucking serious? With that old guy?”
I giggle a bit.
“Hey, he’s not any older than you! But the word on the street is that Piper’s mom passed away when she was just a child, so it’s been her with her stepdad for a while now. Although I also heard that it was totally innocent until just recently. The gossip is that he was a chaperone for one of her cheerleading camps, and that’s when it started.”
Rick’s jaw drops open.
“Holy fuck,” he breathes. “So he started boning the little cheerleader while she was learning routines?”
I nod.
“That’s what I heard. And what a routine he taught her too. But anyways, all of this is just hearsay and I’m sure none of it is true. Still, we can’t hire Piper,” I say in a firm tone. “She’s just too pretty. What about that single dads group that you’re in? Maybe there are some good babysitting leads from that?” I ask with a sly smile.
Rick grins right back.
“Well, now that you’re asking, it seems a new girl has come to town, and she’s eager to earn every penny the single dads pay her. She’s super flexible and the guys love it.”
I giggle.
“OMG, I should set up an agency called the Babysitters Club, but with an ulterior purpose. I’m going to be a pimp!”
Rick merely shakes his head before bending to press a kiss to my head.
“No sweetheart, you’re too busy to do any of that because you’re going to be pregnant non-stop for the next ten years if I get my way. So don’t go around thinking you’re going to get a job because your job is to keep your belly full of my children.”
With that, I giggle again as our mouths join again in a kiss because Rick’s possessiveness is very alpha and thrilling. I thought I was going to be a single mother, but instead, this handsome man has taken over my world. I live with him now; we’ve had a baby together; and now, he wants more children with me. How did I get so lucky? All I can say is that maybe I started as the babysitter of sin, but this handsome single dad showed me what true partner can be … and I adore and appreciate Rick for it.
