“Chloe, a pretty name for a pretty lady.” This guy is definitely flirting with me, but he’s too young and scrawny for me.

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!” Josh reaches over me and snatches my driving license out of the guy’s hand. “GET IN THE CAR!” Oh god, here he is again Mr grumpy. I decide not to argue and do as he says.

“Hey miss, are you ok?” He’s obviously concerned with Josh’s angry out bust.

“I’m fine thanks, my ‘dad’ here just doesn’t like me drinking.” Josh snorts and scowls at me as he escorts me out. He’s a pain in my ass but I love when he gets all alpha male.

We get in the car, and I open my wine taking a big gulp.

“Seriously Clo?! We are trying to go somewhere without being traced and you’re just handing your driving license out to whoever the F**k asks for it!” S**t I didn’t think about that.

“He won’t remember me in an hour so anyway”

“Are you for real? You’re gorgeous Clo! The image of you in those skinny jeans, is going to be burned in his memory forever. And I f**king hate it.” He bangs his fists on the steering wheel.

Josh

This woman is going to be the death of me. All I want to do is protect her, she makes me so crazy I want to put her over my knee and punish her. She’s like a wild animal that can’t be tamed.

I’m driving us to a quiet seaside, fishing village. It’s on the south east coast, my dad used to take me there when I was a boy. That’s if I’ve not killed Chloe myself before we get there. She’s a fiery little minx I don’t why I’m so attracted to her.

I put some music on to distract myself and calm down. It works for a while until Chloe has consumed half of the bottle of wine. She obviously is feeling the effects of the alcohol now as she starts to move her body to the music and sing a little. I try not to look, but she is so sexy.

“So where are we going?” Chloe asks and I’m grateful for the distraction.

“It’s a small seaside town. It’s quiet, not an obvious place to go and there are a few easy routes, out of there, one being by sea. I used to go there with my dad years ago.”

“Are you close to your dad?”

“Yeah, very close, and my mum too. Unfortunately, my dad passed away when I was a teenager. I’ve many great memories of him, he made me who I am. I don’t get to see mum as much as I’d like, I should really make more of an effort to see her I suppose.”

“That’s a shame about your dad. It’s nice you were close though, I never knew my parents, my grandma brought me up.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t know Clo.”

“No need to be sorry, I’ve never known any different, and my grandma did a great job. She passed away about 6 months ago, but she had a good life. I miss her, but it is what it is.”

“So, what happened to your parents then?”

“My mum died when I was a baby, she had a blood condition, and I never knew my father. My grandma never knew either. I think it was a one-night stand for my mother, and she didn’t for whatever reason know who my father was.”

“Have you ever tried to find out who your dad was?”

“No, I literally no nothing about him.”

“If you want to, I will do all I can to help you get some answers. We have a good private investigation team and I have ways and means of finding information out.” Chloe gives me a smile.

“Thanks Josh. I’m not sure I want to know but thank you for the offer. I’ll definitely think about it.”

I manage to persuade Chloe to not drink any more wine. She also listens when I explain how serious the situation is, and that she really must do what I say. I hadn’t wanted to worry her at first, but she’s been so blasé about the whole situation I have had to hit her with some reality.

I drive for a few more hours while Chloe sleeps. As I pull off the motorway, I recognise the winding country roads. It brings back memories of my father. We used to come here twice a year, just me and him. We’d go fishing and surfing together. Dad had a busy job and worked away a lot, but he always made sure we spent quality time together and I had his undivided attention.

The roads turn narrower as we get nearer to our destination. I smell the sea before I see it. I’m overcome with emotion. The roads open up onto the seafront. The sun is beginning to rise. This is my happy place. I hear a noise at the side of me and see Chloe is starting to wake up. I’m grateful for being in a beautiful place with an even more beautiful girl. I just hope I can keep her safe.

“Wow. It’s so pretty Josh.” Chloe sits up so she can take in the view. “Look at those beach huts all different colours it looks like something off a postcard.” Chloe’s right it does look spectacular, with the sun coming up shining a warm light that sparkles on the sea, it would be an ideal picture. We drive down the seafront, Chloe has her window down with her face in the wind smiling as she takes it all in. “Please tell me we are staying in one of those huts Josh.”

“Nope.” Chloe slumps back in her seat.
