“Yes,” said Castor. “My sister Ismena—Rose, as you know her, was just rescued from the compound of a crime lord.”

And Athena’s world went sideways.

“What?” Athena asked, or she thought she did.

Maybe she just screamed it. Inside her own head.

“With Ares’s help, that’s Rose’s husband, I’ve collected some information that might be of use to you.” Castor was still talking. Athena’s ears were buzzing.

“I...”

“I think I have information on where to find your family. There was a news story. It was part of my search. I spent years looking for human trafficking victims. There was a missing girl called Athena. Taken from a beach. She and her twin brother were kidnapped. They were held for three months.”

“No... A twin brother?” She felt like she was breaking apart. Like something inside of her was being shattered.

“Please don’t tell her all of this here,” said Cameron, putting his arm around her waist. “If there’s somewhere where you can speak privately...”

“I apologize. Do you not remember any of this?”

Athena shook her head. “I don’t.”

“Let’s go,” he said. “To the garden in the back.”

Cameron held tightly to her as they were propelled out of the venue. Once they were outside, Castor reached into his jacket and took out a file. “It’s all here.”

And suddenly, something in her mind broke wide open. “Constantine Kamaras. My brother is Constantine. He was my twin. And there was... A baby.”

“I... There are some things in that file you will want to look at. Some things that you will need to know. Cameron, may I speak with you for a second?”

Castor took Cameron aside while Athena sat there, trying to catch her breath. He came back a moment later. “We don’t have to stay,” he said.

“Yes, we do,” she said. “It’s... It’s for you it’s...”

“Tomorrow. We will go back to America tomorrow. We will arrange to meet your family. I have already talked to Apollo about speaking to them.”

“We can’t just... I don’t know...”

She was fighting memories, and also reaching for them. She could remember forcing a boy to sit and watch a cartoon with her about ponies...

This is stupid, Athena. But you will do stupid things for me!

She’d grinned at him. Just like she did to Cameron now when she suggested something silly and he reacted darkly.

Perhaps she’d started training to handle Cameron even back them.

She saw more fragments in her mind.

A woman, beautiful and glamorous. Her mother?

A handsome man in a suit, graying. And an older man who was completely gray. A father and grandfather?

Then there was a baby...

“My mother and father?”

“Living,” he said.

“My baby brother...”
