“Let us speak more about this after.”

“But...”

“Athena, this was too much to ask you to think about here. Let us speak more after.”

She made it through the rest of the evening feeling numb.

Cameron’s presentation was amazing, but she could hardly grasp the details. She had a family.

She had a family. So had Rose, the entire time.

Had it been the man who’d adopted her who had kidnapped her? She didn’t think so.

She didn’t think so.

She didn’t know why, only that...there was some darkness. A gap...

They got into the limo after, and she looked over at Cameron. “Will you tell me? Will you tell me everything?” For some reason the most desperate thing was about the baby in her memory.

“I am very sorry to tell you this, but your younger brother passed. A year ago.”

Something in her broke. The little dark-haired boy went from pudgy baby to wicked toddler. He’d been maybe two or three the last time she’d seen him.

And she would never see him again.

“No,”she said. “That isn’t fair. Isn’t fair that I would miss him like this I...”

“I know. Your twin is married. He is the father of twins himself.”

She felt awash in emotion. Pain. She had a twin brother. He was a father. That made her not only a sister, a twin, but an aunt as well. And the youngest brother...

She tried to remember him.

She remembered playing on the beach with the dark-haired boy. Her age. Dark eyes. She remembered feeling connected to him. Deeply connected. As if he was another part of her.

As if she could sense what he was thinking. Feeling.

“I remember. I remember Constantine. My twin he...”

There was a bedroom. And everything in it was butterflies. She could remember jumping on the bed with him. Laughing, reaching for the little paper butterflies that hung from the bed.

“I have a family. I wonder if my mother and father still...”

“According to this file, they live still.”

“I need to go to them. I need...”

“Of course you do. Of course you need to go to them. Right away.”

“Cameron, you will come with me.”

“I will take you to America. I will take you as far as that.”

She looked up at him, her heart suddenly torn. This was what she’d wanted, come to her sooner than she could have imagined. And Cameron...who had not left Scotland or his castle other than this past week, for a decade was willing to fly to America for her as if it was no more than a ride across the moors on Aslan.

“We should call them first... Will we...”

“I’ll have Apollo contact them. We will make sure that they are ready for your arrival.”
