My cheeks go pink. We’d spent last night studying, and I really meanstudying. He brought me a book of incantations and we’d gone over the principles of using incantations in spells. Then he’d had me try to use one alone.

It hadn’t worked, so we’d tried again and again, until neither of us would keep our eyes open. We’d passed out on my bed. If this happened at the beginning of term, I might have had some reservations about it, but I’ve slowly, slowly started to trust them since then. Nothing has happened to make me think they aren’t looking out for me. They’ve stayed out of my head with the communication spell, and they’ve all kept their distance physically, waiting for me to take the lead on that.

Well, Hardin has a hard time with that and touches me far more than the other three, but I find myself not minding so much. If I’m honest, I want them to touch me more often. So waking up to Ezra in my bed isn’t as distressing as I might have thought.

In fact, it’s kind of nice.

He turns on his side too, mimicking my position, hands curled under his chin like mine. “I’m thinking about how much of a failure of a witch I am. I’m just theworstwitch ever.”

His lips twist. “You are not. You’re learning.”

I snort a laugh. “Uh, yeah I am. You guys can do amazing things, like pulling a wall of stone out of the ground with a flick of your wrist. I can’t even manage a spell when I have all the ingredients and an incantation.”

He uses the tips of his fingers to brush along my cheekbone, pushing strands of hair off my face and behind my ear. “You’ll get there, Ro.”

I frown at him, and try to ignore how his fingers are moving down my neck to the curve of my shoulder, and it just keeps going until his hand rests on my hip. “How can you know that? How can you be sure I used magic before?”

He lifts a shoulder in a shrug. “We just do. You’re the most talented illusionist that we’ve seen in a long time.” His hand tightens ever so slightly on my hip before he releases me and smooths a finger over my forehead. “You just have to get out of your head. You’re standing in your own way.”

I hum in my throat and then move forward, burrowing into his body while his arms come around me, one hand going to the tangle of hair at the back of my head and the other to my lower back.

“Your faith in me is misplaced,” I murmur against his chest and he laughs, shaking me with the force of it. I grin and inhale deeply. Fuck, I love the way he smells so damn much. He buries his nose in my hair and he’s also taking deep breaths, like he can’t get enough.

In winter quarter, I’d come across a very drunk Ezra in Goodwin. He’d drunkenly told me he loved the way I smelled, that it was torture to sit next to me in class.

We seemed to have a similar obsession because I can’t get enough of him. My nose trails up the column of his throat until I can press my lips against his jaw. He goes a still, his arms tightening around me, carefully. “Ro.”

“Hmm?” I lift my head to look at him. He takes advantage of the movement, his lips capturing mine in a sweet kiss. I’m taken by surprise, and I’m torn between pushing away and pulling him closer, but then I’m the one that nuzzled into him and kissed his jaw. On some level, I want this. I want him. My fingers curl in his soft t-shirt, trying to pull him closer and it has the opposite effect, dammit, because he pulls back with a laugh to press his forehead to mine.

“We shouldn’t.”

I tug on his shirt again. “Or maybe we should?”

He rolls me onto my back, bracing his forearms on either side of me and it’s amazing how he just fits right along the length of my body. I curl one leg around his, bring him closer to me and am rewarded with a sharp intake of breath and his eyes going a deep amber color, like burnt sugar.

“Rosalind…” My name is a warning. I can’t for the life of me figure out why he would warn me away from this, away from him.

“Ezra…” I warn right back.

He laughs again and kisses my forehead. “As much as I’d love to stay here with you all day and do all sorts of deliciously naughty things, I have to go meet Fielder.”

I scowl. “Screw Fielder, so you can screw me.” And then I stop talking and look away because I’m way too embarrassed by what I just said and my face is on fire.

Ezra’s fingers curl over my chin, drawing my gaze back to him. When he’s sure he has my attention, he rolls his hips, grinding his hard length into me. I gasp at the friction. “Feel what you do to me, Ro? Feel how hard I am from just this?”

My mouth feels dry as cotton and I can’t swallow, can’t find my voice, so I nod. “Believe me when I say if I could stay here with you I would, but I have to meet Fielder. I really wish I hadn’t given him such a fucking early time to do what we have to do, but I did.” He kisses me again. I don’t let him pull back right away, licking at his lips until he parts them with a groan, letting me deepen the kiss, taste him as he tastes me. Heat pools between my legs and I arch into him, needing more of the feel of his body on mine.

Another groan tears out of his chest, and this time he pulls away from me, breathing hard. “Fuck. I have to go. But we will pick this up again.”

“We better.” I nod as he examines my face, his lips just slightly tipped up at the corners. Apparently liking what he sees, he smacks a kiss on my lips and rolls off of the bed, to his feet. He adjusts the front of his boxer briefs and then heads into my bathroom, closing the door behind him.

The sounds of masculine pleasure that come from behind the closed door are enough to have my face turning red and my hand creeping between my legs, just like I’d done with Gideon. I’m so thankful that they are respecting my boundaries, but damn if I haven’t been masturbating more and more recently.

When he exits a few minutes later, I have the blanket over my face and I can’t meet his eyes. This is just so… awkward.

He lets out a laugh when he sees me, and a second later he tugs the blankets off my head, or at least he tries to, but I refuse to let it go. “Ro, look at me,” he demands.

I shake my head, still maintaining my death grip. “Nope, thanks. I’ll just stay here.”
