I nod, quickly turning away. I don’t want to argue with Riley. Not right now, but I can't promise him that there will be another time. It would be unfair to Riley as it would be to myself. I had lost hope of returning to my pack long ago. Packs don’t believe in second chances. Once a traitor, always a traitor.

The rest of the journey is in silence until we walk back through the doors of Redwood Manor.

“You better head back up to your room. I'll see you at the meet later, yeah.”

I nod. “Riley—"

"Did you enjoy your run?"

I smile, turning around at the sound of Keisha behind me.

"Keisha, oh my god, it's great to see you." I smile, happy to actually see someone in the pack who didn’t hate me. "How have you been? I don't know ifyou got my last few messages because I changed my number and—"

"What—" Riley begins before Keisha cuts him off.

"I'm good. I've just been busy. A lot's changed since you left. I'm getting mated next month." She smiles widely.

"Keisha." Riley growls threateningly beside me.

"I'm so happy for you!" I say, wondering what Riley's problem is.

"I'll make sure to send you an invite to the mating ceremony. I'd hate for you to miss it. Well, Corbin, and I would hate for you to miss it. I'll see you at the meet tonight."

Watching Keisha leave, I feel like she’d just punched me in the chest.

Corbin.

Mated.

I turn to Riley. "Is this true?" I demand.

He doesn't answer me, but he doesn't have too. The look on his face tells me all I need to know. Without waiting for an answer, I head straight toward the alpha's office. Each step I take fueling the hatred I feel towards him right now.Why didn’t he tell me?

I don't bother to knock as I march into his office, finding him seated behind his desk.

"Keisha, really?" I snap, hating that I'm letting this get to me.

"A lot has changed since you left Lei."

"Yeah, Keisha just explained it to me." I reply, stomping further into the room.

"This has nothing to do with you, Lei. I'm the alpha now. I've remained unmated for years. The pack needs this."

"And Keisha, she's your choice?"

"No, you were, until you left." He replies, leaning back in his chair. "I moved on, Lei, and so did you."

"I bet your father would be real proud," I snarl. "He always did prefer her over me."

He's out of his chair and stalking toward me before I can move.

I walk back until my back hits the wall, cursing as Corbin boxes me in with his hands landing on either side of my head.

"My father may not have liked the idea of you as my mate, but I loved you, Lei. I would have given you anything once, but it wasn't enough, was it? My father was right. You could never be the mate of an alpha. You’re too weak. Nothing but a whore."

I lash out. My hand connecting hard withhis cheek, but it doesn't even phase him.

"Get out, Lei. We're done here. I'll let the rest of the pack decide your fate."
