"Well?" I finally ask once he's sitting behind his desk.

"She's staying."

I nod. "Good, but what about the pack? It's obvious they don't trust her."

"They have every right not to. I don't trust her. You saw her at the meeting. She hid it well, but when the verdict came in, she was scared. She came back here for a reason, and she’s not leaving until I find out why.”

Sighing, I take the seat across from him. I know he's right. As much as I want to believe that Lei had changed her mind and came back to us, it was something else that drove Lei back home, and as Corbin said, we will get to the bottom of it.

"So, what's the plan?" I ask.

"We leave her for tonight. She needs to rest. I don’t know how far she’s travelled, but she looked exhausted.”

“And what do you intend to do about your future, Luna? She looked ready to kill you when you chased after Lei tonight. I wouldn’t be surprised if she tries to get rid of her herself.”

“She wouldn’t dare.” Corbin threatens.

“Did you know that Keisha has been keeping in touch with Lei since she left?” I ask.

“Why the hell would Keisha keep in contact with Lei? They’re barely friends.” He frowns.

"I don't know," I shrug. "But Keisha has done nothing but bad mouth Lei since she arrived, but earlier in the foyer, she acted like they were best friends."

"I'll have a word with her tomorrow and find out just what she knows about Lei leaving. But right now, I want you to keep an eye on Lei for me while I inform the pack that she is staying."

"I'm on it." I say, jumping up from my chair.I hadn't planned on letting her out of my sight in any way.

Chapter Eight

LEI

"Lei!”

I bury myself further under the warm blanket, ignoring Corbin's call. I don't know what his problem is this morning, but if he thinks I'm going to run to him after last night, he's got another thing coming.

I still can't believe I let that happen.

That's the problem with this place. Ever since I walked through its doors, I'd felt safe. For the first time in four years, I no longer felt the need to look over my shoulder, and that makes it dangerous.

I wasn't welcome here, and I couldn't stay for long. Not without telling Corbin and Riley the truth, and the truth would only hurt them.

"Lei! " The door to my room crashes open as I look up.

"I'm pretty sure that door was locked," I say, turning to Corbin. "You really need to learn a thing or two about privacy."I snap.

"And you really need to learn about telling the truth. How about we start with Xan?” He demands.

Xan. Shit. How does he know about Xan?It's too soon. There's no way he could have found me so quickly. I'd been so careful coming here. I'd changed planes twice and taken two cabs from two different companies before finally renting the jeep. There was no way he could have tracked me this fast. It's not possible.

Jumping from the bed, I head toward the bathroom to get ready.

"Lei." Corbin stands in front of me, cutting me off, and I finally glimpse a piece of white card in his hands.

"What's that?" I ask, unable to stop the tremor in my voice.

"It's the card from the bouquet of flowers your boyfriend sent. However, I'm still trying to figure out how he could have left them without alerting the security cameras. Do you care to tell me what's going on?"

"I already told you; nothing is going on. Xan is just a friend. He must have found the address at my apartment. I'm sorry."
