Then there was my father, keeping his chest puffed out as he greeted the influential guests one by one.

Today was a good day.

Dillon walked close, nerves consuming his usual gruff expression. As he held out his hand, I pulled him in for a typical familiar bear hug, which shocked the hell out of him.

“Hell, you are considered family now,” I told him then backed away.

He grinned, nodding as he turned his head to capture another look at his bride to be. “Thank you for everything.”

The man had saved Carrie’s life then watched over me at the hospital, even though his doctor had insisted he rest. I owed him many things for his loyalty.

“She loves you,” I told him.

“I’m one lucky man.”

“Yes, you are. Don’t forget it,” I teased. “So am I.” I noticed Sarah shifting away from the crowd in order to find me again, her smile beaming.

“Don’t worry, Don Giordano. If I do, I’m certain you’ll remind me,” he said as he laughed.

“Gabriel.”

“Not today. Today you represent my family.”

As I looked into his eyes, I was honored by the level of respect. I didn’t deserve a second chance. But I was grateful I’d been given one.

I made one additional promise on this beautiful day. That I wouldn’t waste a minute of my life.

“I think it’s time,” I nudged and grinned as he wiped his hands on his suit.

“I won’t let anything happen to her. Ever,” he said with conviction.

“I know you won’t.”

As he walked away, others gathering close to the gazebo, Sarah headed toward me, her grin creating an intense need all over again. She slid her arm around me and lifted her head to the sky.

“Look. There’s a rainbow.”

I tipped my head and pulled her tightly against me. There would always be enemies and they would be handled. However, they would no longer rule the organization or my family. “It’s beautiful. Just like you are.”

She laughed as she clung to me. “The rainbow signifies hope, life reborn. I feel like that’s what happened. We were reborn and our lives combined as one.”

“You’re my little dreamer.”

“No, I’m just a woman finally finding love.”

As the ceremony started, I kept my eyes on the fading colors. I was no romantic, but I took it as a sign.

Everything happened for a reason.

Love had managed to triumph over both evil and death.

And I would never forget the gift of being given a second chance.

The End
