He was missing two fingers on one of his hands.

The bastard had wanted revenge. Or he’d been hired several months before to steal information regarding our businesses. Even though he’d been clandestine in his activities, it was too damn easy pegging him as the leak. I didn’t believe in coincidences or matters of convenience. I had a feeling Demarco had sold his soul for a hefty sum of money, or maybe the promise of power. Depending on what had been taken could mean every one of our illegitimate businesses could be exposed, which would allow for territory to be taken from under us.

I continued watching until Demarco pulled out a jump drive, inserting it into my laptop. That’s all I needed to see. I moved to the computer, not bothering to sit down as I moved to the security system I’d installed only a few days before. It allowed me to see exactly what had been copied, including the timestamp.

The fucker had taken a membership list, which didn’t concern me. However, he’d taken some of the information that I’d stored regarding some of our most prominent members that I could use if necessary.

What the hell was he planning on doing, blackmailing them for money? Or leaking the information to the press? I wasn’t in the mood to try to figure that out.

“Was he found?”

“Yeah. I told the stupid asshole his car would get him into trouble one day. He’s at a motel just outside of town. I just happen to know the chick who runs the place,” he said as he grinned. “So I got his room number.”

The man was efficient.

“If you ask me, boss, he’s making a drop of some kind,” he added.

No, he was selling the information for personal gain. If I had to guess, to the Morettis. Fuck. “What’s the name?”

As he provided the address, I took a deep breath.

“Do you want me to go with you, boss?” he asked.

“No. Finish what you’re doing. I’ll handle it.” I didn’t waste any time heading to my car. How long had he been providing information? With the marriage between Theodora and Nico, as well as stolen documents, they could simply wait until our organization imploded.

I pressed down on the accelerator, furious I’d allow the fucker to live. That would now be rectified. Then I’d begin the process of annihilating the Morettis piece by piece.

The drive was without incident, Demarco’s Trans Am hidden in the back of one of the buildings. I added another clip of ammunition then headed to the stairs located in the back, taking them two at a time. I listened for any sounds coming from the other rooms. Given the time of day, there was almost no one at the shithole, which would make things easier.

I moved to his door, cautiously peering in through the inch crack in the drapes, unable to see anyone. As I pulled the weapon into my hands, I glanced down both sides of the corridor then kicked in the door, closing it behind me, noticing his weapon had been placed on the vanity located outside the shower room.

“What the fuck?” I heard his muffled voice. I refused to give him the opportunity of grabbing the gun, snatching it seconds before he threw open the door, shocked at seeing me standing in front of him.

I grabbed him by the throat, yanking him further away from the toilet, smashing his head against the mirror. As it cracked, he moaned, slamming his hands on the counter, but I was too quick for him, wrapping my hand around his throat with one hand, shoving the barrel of my weapon against his temple with the other.

He held up his hands, panting as he tried to get a good look at me in the smashed mirror. “What are you doing?”

“What do you think? Where is it?”

“What?”

I laughed and squeezed his neck until he wheezed. “The drive.”

I noticed he attempted to smile and pulled his head away, preparing to smash it again.

“You’re too late.”

“I’m curious, Demarco. What did the Morettis offer you to sell out?”

He laughed. “They’ll come for you. They know about your bitch.” He laughed and I slammed his head into the mirror.

“You’re in no position to threaten me.” Shit. I hadn’t told Dillon that she was to remain in the house. Goddamn it.

“You’re a fucking fool.”

“I might be but at least I’ll be the one walking out of here today. You’ll be getting a one-way ticket to hell.” As I prepared to fire, he had the most peaceful look on his face.

“He said you would never figure it out. It’s funny about betrayal. It comes from somewhere you least expect.”
