That was until she turned and crouched down low, exposing the ugly scar on the back of her leg.

I jumped to my feet, curling my hands into tight, trembling fists. Isaac and Rhett gasped beside me and copied my movement, which told me they’d noticed it too.

The music. Her voice. That fucking scar.It all made sense now.

Samara.

The woman on stage was fucking Samara!

Chapter 50

Finn

Iexpelledanexcruciatinghiss as I applied an ice pack to my busted eye, praying the fucking thing could help ease some of the swelling. I had to give Prim her props—that bitch packed one hell of a vicious punch. And my ribs…God they fucking ached. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’d cracked over half of them when she was kicking the dogshit out of me out in the middle of the road.

I hobbled my way through the kitchen and paused outside of the basement, cursing when my phone started ringing. After struggling a bit, I snatched it out my back pocket, tapping the speakerphone button. It was a number I didn’t recognize.

“Hello?”

“Finn?”

“Ginger,” I breathed out, grunting from the pain shooting through my bruised torso. “Baby, are you okay?”

“Yes, I’m fine. We’re at the airport now, getting ready to board a plane.”

I closed my eyes, my heart swelling with relief. “Any signs of danger?”

“No, none.”

“Good,” I nodded to myself.

“But Finn, the teenagers, they’re scared. They won’t stop crying and they keep saying they want to go home.”

“I know they’re scared, but just tell them to hang in there a little longer. It’s not safe for any of you to come back right now.”

“What are you going to tell their parents?”

“I’ll figure something out,” I promised. “Just trust me, Gin. Their parents will know they’re safe. I’ll make sure of it.”

“I love you,” her voice cracked, shattering my heart all over again.

I fucking hated this shit. Hated how I had to let the love of my life go in order to protect her from Damien. But it was necessary. As soon as she was out the country, Damien wouldn’t find her. Hell, I was lucky the sick fuck didn’t shoot me in the head when he showed up to find his precious merchandise gone and me and Jace both unconscious on the side of the fucking road.

“I love you too. Don’t worry about me, okay? I’ll be fine. Oh, and turn your cell off if you haven’t already. Damien can track you if it’s active. Get a burner phone and call me as soon as you land. Promise me, Gin.”

“I-I promise.”

“That’s my good girl,” I praised with a small smile. “Listen, baby, I have to go now. And remember, no emails, no social media, no nothing. Same goes for the other girls. One little slip and that’s it, Damien will find you. He’s oblivious right now and it needs to stay that way.”

“Okay. I…I understand.”

“Bye, baby. I’ll see you soon. I promise.”

“How sweet,” a deep voice boomed from down in the basement.

I sighed even though it hurt like a motherfucker to do it and limped down the steps, finding Uncle Xavier kicked back in the recliner, waiting for me.

“I told you it was foolish getting involved with her, Griffin. You’re just as bad as my boys. You never listen.”
