“Beat it, bitch,” Vicki fired back. I backed away as Ginger’s hands curled into tight fists, her chest heaving.

Uh, oh. This wasn’t gonna end well.

“He’s shit-faced, you rapist whore! Is that how you operate now? Taking advantage of men when their unable to properly give consent?”

“Whatever,” Vicki snorted. “Come on, Jace, let’s go somewhere else.”

Ginger took a dangerous step forward. “He’s not going anywhere with you.”

“Oh yeah? And what are you going to do to stop me?”

I didn’t have to look to know what was coming. As Ginger charged at Vicki, I dove out the way, right at the perfect moment Ginger bashed Vicki’s head forehead first into the door.

“Go sit the fuck down,” she snapped at me, pointing a hostile finger over to the nearest bench. “I’ll deal with you in a minute.”

I did as she commanded but had to literally crawl to get myself there. My head swam as I sat down, groaning.

Vicki whimpered in pain behind me. I didn’t look. Hell, at this rate I was seeing triple and all I wanted was to lay down and fall asleep on this damn bench.

“Listen up and listen good, you disgusting fucking slut,” Ginger’s voice ferociously shook. “Jace is off limits to you and any other whore fiending for a piece. You’ve got two options. You can either fuck off and go do your fucking job, or I’ll hand deliver you to Damien right now and throw your sorry ass under the bus for what you tried to do to his son. Take your fucking pick, Vicki.”

“I-I’m sorry,” Vicki cried. “I didn’t realize you two were—”

“We’re not,” Ginger abruptly replied. “He’s my best friend and nothing more.”

“Then what’s the fucking problem?” she cried again.

“Wow, bitch, you really are stupid if you seriously have to ask me that question. Touch him again, breathe, or so much as glance in his fucking direction, and you’re done. Am I making myself clear?”

“Y-Yes, Ginger. I’m sorry. Please, pleasedon’t tell Damien about this. He-He’ll kill me.”

“You should’ve thought about that ahead of time, you stupid whore. God, you duplicitous bitches get on my fucking nerves.”

The door opened and as I craned my head lightly to the side, I caught a blurred image of Vicki being tossed out on her ass. As the door slammed shut, I closed my eyes, swallowing hard as my best friend’s footsteps came stomping over to me.

I envisioned her slap coming ahead of time. Closing my eyes, bracing myself for it, I was surprised when she sat down beside me and grasped my face, pressing her forehead to mine.

“Are you okay?”

“Fine,” I grumbled. I pulled away from her, adjusting myself so I could lay down, resting my head in her lap. Ginger cursed to herself before she sighed and gently raked her fingers through my hair.

“You’re a fucking idiot, you know that, right?”

“It wasn’t my fault,” I whined in my defense. “It was all her.”

“I know it was,” she promised, her voice calm. “I know you’re fucked up right now, but I really need you to listen to me. Samara called. She knows about the three girls.”

My heart stopped dead in my chest.Fucking Hell. That was it. That was the reason she’d called me.

“What do you mean she knows?”

“She said their disappearances are all over the news. She knows they went missing in Damien’s territory.”

“And what did you say?”

She sighed. “I told her I couldn’t talk about it over the phone. I’m picking her up Sunday. I’m gonna tell her the truth, Jace, about everything.”

“WHAT?” I sat up then and aligned my drunk eyes to her sober ones, taking in her frown. “Ginger, you can’t. You-You said—”
