Phantom’s venomous gaze landed on me for a brief moment before he angrily bit down on his lip then looked away to settle in on the crowd.
“I’ll just cut the shit and get straight to the point,” Phantom said with heated intent.
“The Outlaws have been kidnapping teenage girls off the streets. Recently one of our own was attacked, but we were fortunate enough to save the girl before she was snatched. Everyone here knows who Damien Reyez is and that he’s in charge over the Outlaws. Word has spread around that he’s conquered majority if not all of the Valley. He’s coming after Ravager territory next, the academy included.”
Frightened squeals and angry grunts cascaded all around me.
Me? I just smirked, already knowing this information.
“What does that have to do with us?” a random guy I couldn’t see spoke out.
“It has everything to do with you,” answered Isaac. “All students, your lives included, are in grave danger. Compared to the army Damien is building against us Ravagers, we won’t stand a chance at surviving without an army of our own. That’s where the lot of you come in. So, congratulations ladies and gents. You’ve just been recruited by Xavier Michaelson to join the Ravagers.”
A hard gasp thundered out of me. Red began misting over my eyes as I clenched a stiff fist at my side.
What the fuck did he just say?
“Like fucking Hell we are,” another guy hollered, his voice quaking with fear.
“You don’t have a fucking choice,” Phantom lashed back at the guy.
My eyes wandered over to Rhett while Phantom and Isaac verbally duked it out with all the kids frantically firing question after question at them.
He was still on the phone.
Before I could stop myself, I was stomping over in his direction. He’d gotten off the phone right when I made it to him and whipped around, making it easier for me to grab a fistful of his shirt.
“You motherfucker,” I hissed as I yanked him close to me, my breath vibrating with fury. “You’re the fucking reason I’m here!”
“I,” he muttered, gulping hard. “I was just trying to help you get—”
“Did I ask for your fucking help?” I countered, my chest hurting from breathing so hard. “I told you what happened to me out of confidence, not for you to turn around and fucking recruit me into being one of your father’s pets!”
I was so enraged I wanted to gut him like a fucking pig and feed all his dismembered body parts to a pack of wolves.
This isn’t what I wanted. What I wanted was to kill Damien and be free from him and all of this gang banger bullshit.
But now, thanks to my idiotic mistake of trusting Rhett, here I am yet a-fucking-gain being recruited to join another gang lord's crew.
“God damn you!”
I released Rhett then decked him hard in the face, landing another blow to his nose before his arms could fly up in time to stop me.
He stumbled back, dazed. The wordsI’m sorryrasped out of his mouth as his body fell back and crashed down hard in the dirt.
Chapter 41
Isaac
“Goddamnthisshithurts,” Rhett groaned a few hours later in our dorm, after we’d gotten back from the party. We had to cut the recruitment meeting short thanks to us getting an unexpected phone call from Griffin. The big man in the sky must’ve heard our prayers because Sharkey was nice enough to pull some product off to the side for us to sell tonight.
After Samara put Rhett on his ass, she ran off. It was a complete fucking shit show after that. Everyone kept screaming over each other, all shaken and terrified over being recruited. They’d better get the fuck over it fast because the decision had already been finalized.
That reminds me. I have to pay a certain little someone a visit here shortly.
Rhett moaned out in pain as he gripped his nose, checking the tissues he had stuffed up both nostrils for traces of blood. I couldn’t deny it—Samara packed one hell of a punch. It had already been well over two hours and the bleeding still hadn’t fully stopped.
“I need to talk to her.” Rhett cursed to himself as he gripped his head, shaking it. “I have to go apologize.”
