I continue to clean him up, seeing all the nasty cuts decorating his skin. When my washcloth is completely soaked in blood, I try to move and get a new one, but Blaze locks his hand around my wrist.

“I’ll be right back.”

His eyes search mine. I’m not sure what he’s looking for, but he must find it because he lets me go.

I hurry to wet a new cloth, throwing this one on the floor in the bathroom. This place is going to need a deep clean after this. Everyone is covered in soot and blood. No one has made a move to clean up yet.

I hear a snippet of their conversation as I go past.

“Do you think he knew specificallywewere there for him or just a team in general? If our covers are blown, we are in more danger,” Felix asks.

“I think if he knew who we were, he would have made sure the bomb hit us. Instead, it went off in the middle where most people were, making it seem more like an educated guess,” Aksel answers.

I get back to Blaze’s side and continue cleaning him. When I realize some of the cuts are still bleeding, I apply some pressure.

Still, Blaze just watches me.

“You need to rest and heal,” I say.

He doesn’t move.

I huff but don’t push it. He’s a grown man who can make his own decisions, but I’m going to keep watch over him until he makes the right ones.

I was right. The apartment is a disaster.

I finally convinced everyone to shower and get some sleep last night. I think they mostly agreed because they knew Blaze needed it and would be stubborn.

Waking up this morning, I remember the ash and dirt all over the floors. Some even got on the walls.

I groan, thinking about the mess ahead of me.

Felix’s head pops up from behind the kitchen island. From this angle, I couldn’t see what he was doing. He has a rag in his hand.

“Morning, Kitten. How’d you sleep?”

I can’t avoid the most pressing question.

“What are you doing?”

He grins. “Cleaning up! Sorry, this place is such a disaster.”

He’s cleaning? He woke up this morning and started cleaning my apartment. Why does that make me like him so much more? It feels like he’s… taking care of me. It’s really sweet.

“Thank you,” I tell him sincerely.

His smile only grows. Felix stands up, pouring a cup of coffee and adding fixings to it. I’m shocked when he brings it over to me.

“Here, start your morning with coffee in bed.”

I take a sip, and it’s perfect. It’s made exactly the way I love it. He barely knows me, which means he’s been paying attention.

“It’s perfect. Thank you.”

He shocks me by leaning down slowly so I could stop him and pressing his lips against mine. I guess we broke that barrier yesterday.
