“Shocker. Who wouldn’t get along with Aksel? He’s so kind and respectful!” I say sarcastically.

Griffyn and Felix laugh while Blaze stays silent, and Aksel continues to glare at me.

I push at Griffyn until he gets out of the car. I want to be the one they open the door to. They won’t appreciate these guys just showing up again.

“I’m moving,” Griffyn complains when I push him to go faster.

“You’re slow,” I complain.

I rush ahead of him and up the steps to their house, knocking as soon as I get there.

Aly swings the door open with Nic and Jeremy by her side. Her smile is wide until she looks behind me to see who I’ve brought.

Her eyebrows drop. “You brought them?”

I nod. “We need your help. I’ll explain everything.”

She smiles again, but it’s more forced. “Then, come in.”

Jeremy is practically growling at them as they follow me inside. I lead us right over to the couch, sitting more awkwardly than I ever have here before.

“Explain,” Jeremy growls, staring Aksel down.

“Don’t snap at her!” Felix defends me, but that’s just how Jeremy is.

I lay a hand on his arm, hoping to calm him down.

“Don’t worry about it. That’s just Jeremy,” I explain.

Aly sits across from me with Nic next to her.

“What are you doing with them, Anna?” Nic asks.

“Well, they came snooping around me in their search for Ryan. I have insider information, and I want to find him so bad, I joined them.”

Aly smiles, but it’s forced. Since I can read my best friend like a book, I know she’s hurt that I didn’t tell her about them sooner.

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner! I didn’t want you worrying about me,” I add.

“And they just let you join them? An elite team from the council brought a civilian in on the case?” Nic asks, disbelieving. He’s staring at Aksel with distrust.

“I didn’t want her with us,” Aksel defends.

That only makes Nic glare at him harder.

“She really has been helpful with the information she has on Ryan. Invaluable, really,” Griffyn says.

Aly, Nic, and Jeremy don’t look convinced.

Felix nudges me, but I don’t take the bait. I’m not ready to admit we are mates.

“I hate you being in danger, but I would never stop you from getting your justice,” Aly says. She reaches out an arm, gripping my hand in hers.

A little crack in my soul heals at her trust in me. She’s happy to believe in me and my decisions. A part of me always knew she would feel this way, but the dark voices in my head crept in.

“So, what do you need? I’m assuming that’s why you’re here,” Nic asks.

“Well-” I start, but Aksel cuts me off.
