“I’ve just had a rough few days, that’s all.”

I told her about finding Tiffany at Carson’s apartment.

“But Carson explained, didn’t he?”

Nodding, I played with my rarely-ever unpainted fingernails.

Carson had driven to Mayfair to explain Tiffany’s presence in his apartment, and despite learning of her undercover role darkness still engulfed me.

“Hey, that Lolita bar is very un-Merivale. How skanky is that?” Sienna pulled a face.

“Tell me about it.” I sighed. “That’s why my mother resorted to getting an actress to expose it. It pissed me off that Carson didn’t say anything. Like I’d somehow blow her cover.” I exhaled. “The make-up sex was kind of worth it, though. I came so hard I cried.” I chuckled.

“Then what’s the issue? You’re still getting married?”

“I am.” I sighed. “I feel so fucking worn out by everything. And I’m not sure if I feel like a big affair.”

Her jaw dropped as though I was about to marry in a dress bought from a charity shop. “Hello. Designer wedding gown. Gorgeous photos. Quirky, mystifying gifts. Friends. Party. Need I spell it out?”

“I know. I know. That’s how I should be feeling. But I feel fucking flat. It’s not the wedding as such. It’s fucking Bram.”

“Oh… the video.” She grimaced.

“You’ve seen it, haven’t you? Everyone fucking has.” Depression poured over me again, like a bucket of thick grey paint that was going to take harmful chemicals to remove. Or, in my case, endless packets of Xanax.

“Try to let it go, Savs.”

“I can’t. He’s blackmailing me. He’s making me pay ten thousand pounds a week.”

“Fuck. That’s a lot. But everyone’s seen it.”

I squirmed. Bury me under a rock, please. “He’s threatened to put it on the dark web.”

“Oh?” She looked puzzled.

“It will send the footage onto a ton of porn sites.”

“Can’t you sue?” Her horror mirrored mine after Bram further detailed what being on the dark web would mean.

“Mother’s tried that, but Lord Pike’s estate is bankrupt.”

“Really? But I saw his daughter, Jassie, in Dolce and Gabbana at Cirque practically bathing in Moët.”

“Jassie’s dating some hotshot banker. So it’s probably his money.”

“Then have Bram locked up. I mean, he has no right to send that video out.”

“The police can’t find him. Only the fucking vampire always finds me when I’m alone in an alleyway or when it’s dark.” I sighed heavily. My heart weighed me down. Just the thought of that psycho ex and his evil, sinister eyes made my blood freeze.

“But what about his bank account?”

“Crypto.” I bit into a nail, and Sienna slapped my hand.

“Stop that.”

Sipping on my drink, I tossed that upsetting video aside and talked about my wedding instead.

Jacinta and Sienna had been my obvious choice for bridesmaids.
