What was I thinking bringing these along?

Had I intentionally packed sexy nightwear for Carson? Or was it just a habit?

Carson stripped down to his briefs and his T-shirt, and as I stared at that perfect masculine specimen, I wondered how I’d ever sleep.

Especially with that bulge that seemed to grow as he watched me trying to choose what to wear to bed. My lacy negligees were arousing him.

He went to his overnight bag and brought out a long-sleeved T-shirt and tossed it to me. “I think you’ll be more comfortable in this, won’t you?”

I smiled. He was right. This was hardly the place for a silky nightie, and besides, it was freezing. I placed the red coat close by.

“Turn around,” I said.

“It’s nothing I haven’t seen before.” He lowered onto the mattress, which was on the ground close to the fire that, thinking of everything as Carson did, he’d screened off.

He rolled on his side to give me privacy, and I loved how his long-sleeved T-shirt felt on my body. Especially his scent.

Once in bed, I moved my legs vigorously to get warm.

The thick rain pelted down, and the roaring wind made the windows rattle, more so than earlier.

“I’m so glad you’re here.” I wrapped my arms around him and snuggled in tight.

“I love the sound of rain at night,” he said.

“You’re so warm. You don’t mind if I huddle up close?”

“No. It’s nice.”

His warm, hard body made me feel so safe. I was relieved that there was only one mattress. Otherwise, my earlier petulance may have robbed me of this deliciously cosy moment.

“I’m sorry if I acted like a spoilt brat earlier. I’m just out of my comfort zone. But tomorrow we can live it up. Yes? We’ll go to the village and perhaps find somewhere nice to stay.”

“Sure.”

“Am I sensing disappointment?” I asked.

“Not really, but I was rather looking forward to that boat and some fishing.”

I slapped him. “You’re such a boy.”

A very big boy.

The heavier the rain and more ferocious the winds, the more I squeezed onto Carson’s solid muscle-bound body, loving how he felt against me. I’d never felt so safe with a man before, and after everything I’d experienced, Carson was the only man, other than my brothers, whom I could trust.

If only he wasn’t so fucking hot.

I ran my hands over his rock-solid stomach.

There was a sizzling sensation between my thighs, and for the first time in two weeks, it was warm and inflamed and not stabbing at me.

“This reminds me of the first night. Remember when you stayed with me at Mayfair?”

“Pretty unforgettable.”

His dry response intrigued me. “What do you mean?”

“Just that.”
