I shiver as he runs a finger up my arm.

“Can’t you two wait until you get back to the villa?” Grant says.

“Maybe,” Zach answers.

I raise my glass for a toast, and everyone picks up theirs. “To fiancés, friends, and family, and a great start to the year,” I toast.

They repeat my words, and we clink glasses as we finish the best meal of my entire life. I’m not sure Zach can ever top this moment, but I look forward to a lifetime of watching him try.

“I wasn’tsure you’d show up.” The strong male voice reverberated through the empty conference room.

Amber Delaney spun from where she was setting up the catered luncheon to see Gavin McKay lounging against the now closed conference room door. Her heart pounded. How had he snuck up on her? Forget that. She was alone with him, something she’d promised herself she would never do again.

She’d hoped to avoid him while setting up lunch, but no such luck. The man had an uncanny radar when it came to her. “Hello, Gavin.” She fought to keep her voice steady while her nerves danced with apprehension.

“Hello, Gavin?” He stared at her with those deep blue eyes, sending a delicious shaft of desire flowing over her skin. “That’s all you have to say when you left my bed in the middle of the night a week ago after sharing it for a month?”

“What would you like me to say?” She shrugged, barely feigning the laissez-faire attitude she didn’t feel. “I had a good time. I’m sure you did too.”

A growl left his lips as he stalked across the room. His hands closed over her shoulders before she could take a step back. Heat seared her skin though her clothing. Amber ground her teeth. This damn attraction to Gavin was supposed to go away after they slept together. They’d both agreed: Scratch the itch, and it would go away. Nope. Her need for him only increased.

“You’ve avoided me for the last week. Everyone is concerned something happened between us.”

“It did.” She raised her chin. “Sex happened.” She would not give in to the need coursing through her body. Gavin was now off limits for her sake and his. “If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got work to do.” Amber shrugged off his hands and turned to the food-filled tables. It wasn’t like anything needed attention. Before Gavin’s interruption, the only thing left to do was to take the lids off so everyone could eat.

“I locked the door.”

“What?” She glared at him. “I didn’t know conference room doors had locks, let alone why you would do that.” Amber glanced at the conference table behind him, and her breathing hitched.

“I wanted to talk to you. Privately.”

“This isn’t the time or place. Be reasonable.” Her hands shook as she waved them in the air. She longed to hold him, to run her fingers through his silky black hair, to feel the rough hair on his chest beneath her palms. To kiss his lips, take him back to bed, and recreate the heaven they’d found.

She shook away her thoughts. Not going to happen. She didn’t want to be involved with him. Gavin was a player who would never commit to one woman. While she didn’t want to settle down either, she didn’t serial date like he did.

“…dinner tonight.”

“Sorry, I missed that.”
